The Story

Tiny Diver stars you, a petite adventurer of the sea complete with over-sized flippers and hair that miraculously holds its form. As you explore the depths, you come across coins to collect and creatures to avoid. There are even extras that pop up in the form of arrows, rockets and much more. These help you make your way as you try to fulfill many of the given quests.

The Gameplay

Controlling your tiny diver is very simple. Touch the screen to ascend and let go to descend. All other controls are automated, leaving you to steer the diver and collect coins. You don't even have to worry about surfacing to take a breath. While this may sound like an easy adventure, do not be fooled. In front of you lie jellyfish with ominous skulls in their heads, sharks, octopi and rogue killer whales.

As a side scroller, your character is never stationary. A small progress tracker measures how far you swim each round. The purpose of each round varies greatly as it depends on what quest you are trying to fulfill. Some need you to swim a certain distance while others require defeating a boss. No matter which quest you are on, the objective is very clear and always tells you what you will earn upon completion. This makes it very easy to decide what to strive for next. To make it even more competitive, the game has the ability to sync with Facebook. This lets players post their scores and challenge their friends to beat them.

The Screen

Tiny Diver follows the tradition of most android games by keeping the user's screen clean and simple. Unlike certain phone games that feel the need to include no less than ten buttons all contained within the limited confines of the game screen and messages that pop up once every ten seconds, this one revels in a truly minimalistic design. Once the level starts, there is only one button and it is located at the very upper right corner. This reduces the chance of accidentally hitting pause while you're having a boss battle or maneuvering a complicated area.

To the left of the pause button are the only other two information trackers. The top shows how many meters you have gone, and the coin shows how many coins you have collected in total. The rest of the screen is dedicated to the actual game, giving your diver much more room to navigate. The large play screen also makes it easy to spot the extras strewn along your path. From arrows to rockets, these are sometimes necessary to grab. For instance, if you are tasked with killing a giant octopus, the only way to do so is with the help of auto-firing rockets.

The Store

To its added benefit, Tiny Diver is not a pay-to-win type of game. Though you can spend real money in the store, the game also gives you the ability to complete quests to earn materials that can be traded as well. Here you can invest in upgrades and vehicles. These allow you to progress further and achieve higher and higher scores.
