Are You Following The CIA On Twitter?

The Central Intelligence Agency went live on Twitter with their first tweet. Now you can follow them, but do you really want to? The Twittersphere is abuzz about the new account!

I think we can safely confirm this is their first tweet. They haven't posted much else, but we'll all be watching them to see more.

They have a profile set up with location, web link and a quick description about themselves. It's almost like they want you to follow them or something!

At this point, over 459k people have followed them! These brave, (or foolish), souls are eager to see what else comes from this new account.

But @CIA has followed 25 other accounts on Twitter, though mostly other government organizations.

But this didn't stop everyone else from tweeting at them and asking questions about what this means for the future!

Someone suggested it was a CIA intern, others claim it's a team of social media gurus writing and refining tweets. Why the CIA decided to get on Twitter publicly, we may never know.

Of course celebrities and other online personalities were getting in on the jokes. Got to love Ellen.

Some people are concerned about the CIA being on Twitter, or at least concerned about the CIA in general.

WikiLeaks was also happy to welcome the CIA, though their welcome was a bit more stand offish than the others.

The FBI (who also apparently has an account) was nice enough to welcome the CIA to Twitter as well.

Doesn't seem like their arrival has started trending just yet, though maybe with a few more tweets, (witty or otherwise), they'll have their 15 minutes of fame? Seems most people find it at the least amusing it's an official account for the CIA. We already know we're watching during our daily lives, online and off, might as well have an open line to them right? Of course, you can always "block" the CIA on twitter, but that might not really solve your problems if they're really following you.
