When she accepted her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, Patricia Arquette used her acceptance speech to champion women needing equal rights.

Then she headed back to the press room and expanded on her original statement.

According to the official transcript, Arquette said, "So the truth is, even though we sort of feel like we have equal rights in America, right under the surface, there are huge issues that are applied that really do affect women. And it's time for all the women in America and all the men that love women, and all the gay people, and all the people of color that we've all fought for to fight for us now."

People saw her additional words as less inclusive than her original ones.

When Patricia Arquette was talking about higher wages for women, she sure as fuck wasn't talking about my black ass.

@scarymom76 the dispute is because her commentary did not end on the stage, her thoughts post win were problematic http://t.co/VP5GlsfkHq

"ALL THE GAY PEOPLE AND ALL THE PEOPLE OF COLOR" like gay women & black women are not women too. Girl, please go away. @PattyArquette

Patricia Arquette sure ruined her nice moment. Fighting against one injustice does not excuse blindness to others.

They felt even though her original speech was inspiring, her follow-up leaves out big, important groups of people.

Oh, Patricia Arquette… Ever heard of intersections? Maybe you should look that up.

Okay so I was with Patricia Arquette until she decided to be like "INTERSECTIONALITY WUT IS THAT" http://t.co/ZSA3FXmdwT

stop cheering for #PatriciaArquette, the feminism she advocates isn't intersectional and that in itself is really rude

patricia's comments show the danger in not being hip to this whole intersectionality thing. women of color get erased.

On Monday morning, Arquette defended her remarks on Twitter:

Wage equality will help ALL women of all races in America. It will also help their children and society.

Women have been basically paying a gender tax for generations.

I have long been an advocate for the rights of the #LBGT community. The question is why aren't you an advocate for equality for ALL women?

If you are fighting against #Equalpay you are fighting for ALL women and especially women of color to make less money than men.

Guess which women are the most negatively effected in wage inequality? Women of color. #Equalpay for ALL women. Women stand together in this

Arquette's representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
