5 Vegan Subscription Boxes That'll Even Make Omnivores Weep With Joy

    Lettuce celebrate a plant-based lifestyle.

We hope you love the products we recommend! Just so you know, BuzzFeed may collect a share of sales from the links on this page.

The added element of surprise makes a subscription box a fun and pretty much fail-safe gift that's especially thoughtful when tailored to a person's interests or lifestyle (or, you know, to their cat or dog). And there are SO. MANY. SUBSCRIPTION. BOXES. As an ~aspiring~ vegan (I'm about 90% of the way there), I decided to to try out some vegan subscription boxes to see which ones would make particularly great gifts...from me to me, if we're being honest.

Here are five of my faves (and no, they're not just boxes of tofu, very funny):

Louisville Vegan Jerky of the Month Club, for the vegan who's sick and tired of being asked "So...what meat do you miss the most?"

Emmy Favilla / BuzzFeed, Louisville Vegan Jerky of the Month Club

What it is: A monthly subscription box with the best vegan (and gluten-free!) jerky I've ever had in my life. Seriously. My meat-eating and vegan friends alike were equally into it, which, imo, says quite a lot. Each box comes with three bags of jerky — two of the company's existing flavors and one of their small-batch "super-secret test flavors." My box included chipotle cherry, pepperoni, and General Tso's flavors (all soy-based), and while they were all ridiculously delicious and satisfyingly jerky-textured, the semi-spicy, umami-rich, ever-so-slightly citrusy General Tso's was my absolute favorite one.

Why it's awesome: Because you probably didn't realize how many inventive vegan-jerky flavors exist in the world. Also the box itself, with its #FakeAF tagline and stately looking bearded man, made me chuckle.

    Price: $19.99 per month.

Snacksack, because no matter what your dietary restrictions are, snacks = life.

    Emmy Favilla / BuzzFeed

What it is: A monthly subscription box overflowing with healthy vegan snacks. Each box contains 12 to 15 items. Along with a cute tote, mine included:

    • Black bean chips

    • Pink Himalayan sea salt pumpkin seeds

    • Sea salt popcorn

    • Dried mango

    • Fruit and veggie sticks

    • "Baja taco"-flavored peanuts

    • Sunflower seeds

    • Double-chocolate brownie batter bar

    • Snap pea crisps

    • Trail mix

    • Sriracha seaweed snacks

    • Banana nut bread bar

    • Chocolate peanut butter bites

Why it's awesome: SO MUCH STUFF. Seriously, this box is packed to the brim with high-quality, varied snacks, at super-affordable price. The Baja taco peanuts really hit the spot, but tbh I got down with every last thing in this box. Also, I can't imagine *anyone *who wouldn't love getting a shipment of snacks sent to their home every month.

Price: $22.33–$24 per month, available in one-, three- six-, and twelve-month subscriptions. Also available in classic and gluten-free options. Use code BUZZ15 for a lifetime 15% discount (including renewals!).

RawBox, for the vegan on a mission to keep things raw. (Get your mind out of the gutter, please.)

    Emmy Favilla / BuzzFeed

What it is: A quarterly subscription box filled raw snacks, beauty products, and household items. Every box comes with 10 to 15 products guaranteed to be a retail value of $60 or more (making its $40 price tag well worth it). All snacks are totally raw, plant-based, gluten-free, wheat-free, soy-free, GMO-free, MSG-free, and sulfite-free, and lifestyle products are free from parabens and other nasty ingredients that I'm too lazy to look up how to spell correctly. My box included:

    • Coconut jerky

    • Cranberry crisps

    • Trail mix

    • Jalapeño salsa pumpkin seeds

    • Peruvian chocolate organic energy bar

    • Dried mixed fruit (persimmon, apricot, white nectarine, jujube, yellow peach, raisins)

    • Plaine Products shampoo and conditioner in rosemary-mint-vanilla

    • Moondami natural breath mist (also in the Love Goodly box)

    * Organic coconut water (in powder form, mix with water or juice)

    • “Joint Rescue” powder with turmeric

    • Pinapple-kale-banana smoothie powder

    • “Red Power” smoothie-to-be

Why it's awesome: I really appreciated the array *and* quality of products. I can't wait to take the shampoo and conditioner (with their sophisticated spin on a plain ol' mint scent) on my next trip, and holy hell were the snacks delicious. My favorites were the coconut jerky — a great alternative for anyone who prefers to avoid soy, which tends to be the base for most vegan jerky on the market — and the Leap "Red Powder" protein-rich smoothie mix, which magically provides you with eight servings of fruits and vegetables (!) and had such an amazing, rich berry flavor, you'd never know. (I mixed it with almond milk and sucked it down in roughly two minutes.)

    Price: $39.95 every three months

Love Goodly, for the eco-conscious beauty and wellness aficionado.

    Emmy Favilla / BuzzFeed

What it is: A bimonthly subscription box (i.e., every other month; bimonthly is a strange ol' word) full of vegan and nontoxic beauty, skincare, eco-lifestyle and wellness products. The regular box includes four to five full-sized beauty items with a total retail value of at least $75, and the VIP box adds an additional full-sized product with a value of at least $40. My regular box included:

    • Mr B’s Necessities calming/sleep aromatherapy oil

    • Moondani natural breath mist (with ginger extract, cardamom oil and fennel oil)

    • Belle Pierre blush in Autumn Blush, self-described as a “universally flattering color”

    • A super-soft, cruelty-free blush brush

    • Mindful Skincare Nourishing Blueberry face mask (for replenishing skin, with vitamins B3, B5, C, and E)

Why it's awesome: It's similar to a Birchbox subscription, except everything is full-sized and guaranteed vegan! Though I enjoyed everything in the box, the aromatherapy oil was my favorite — I've been rolling it on my wrists before bed each night and I can genuinely say it has helped me achieve a more ~relaxed~ state after staring at various screens and managing email all day. Love Goodly also supports a bunch of fantastic causes for animals and humans alike, including Farm Sanctuary, Beagle Freedom Project, and Cure Cervical Cancer.

Price: $29.95 every two months for a regular bimonthly subscription or $47.95 every two months for a VIP bimonthly subscription.

Core Gains, for any vegan who's about to lose it the next time someone asks how on earth they get their protein every day.

What it is: A monthly subscription box "for people who love to work out and eat clean," CoreGains includes tons (really, tons!) of vegan supplements, snacks, and protein powders for anyone looking to up their protein intake to support their fitness goals or otherwise. It's an affordable, thoughtful gift for the plant-based athlete or gym rat. Here's what was in my box:

    • Chocolate-coated coconut protein bar

    • Organic dark-chocolate rice bites

    • Blueberry-vanilla paleo energy bar

    • Two vanilla protein powders

    • Raw organic rice protein powder

    • Raw organic chocolate protein powder

    • Cran-lemon zest baked whole food bar

    • Dark chocolate drinking chocolate

    • Energy + focus supplement in blackberry

    • Protein superfood powder with fruits and veggies

Why it's awesome: A ridiculous amount of stuff — many items from well-established brands like Garden of Life and Sunwarrior — for just $20! The mini dark-chocolate rice snacks were a hit with both me and my very non-vegan boyfriend, and the products in this box aren't the chalky, flavor-left-to-be-desired protein powders that might come to mind when you hear the words "snack," "protein," and "workout" in the same sentence. (And if you needed an additional selling point: The box comes with a little weight-lifting cat printed on it.)

    Price: $19.99 per month.
