16 Actors Who Moonlight As Rockstars

They're actually pretty good.

1. Molotov Jukebox

Famous Person: Natalia Tena, aka Tonks from Harry Potter and Osha from Game of Thrones.

This energetic British band is fronted by Natalia, who both sings and plays the accordion. These guys have got it all: rhythm, style, and a sense of humour. I'm also super into Natalia's sexy policewoman look in the video below.

2. MOTHXR

Famous Person: Penn Badgley, aka Dan from Gossip Girl.

Pretty sure Gossip Girl has had the highest number of actors starting music careers out of all the TV shows. Penn Badgley's band is one of the best of the lot though, thanks to music that is actually, erm, good, and marketing that doesn't rely too heavily on the "omg, look, it's the guy from Gossip Girl!" angle. Thankfully, these guys' sound and style is strong enough to stand up all on its own.

Famous Person: Ryan Gosling, as in, Hey Girl, it's Ryan Gosling.

Back in 2009, Ryan Gosling decided to form a two-man band, the concept of which is (as far as i'm aware) *spooky stuff*. It also utilises a full children's choir. Amazingly enough though, the music is actually pretty good. I'd recommend forgetting all the supernatural concept stuff and just listening to the songs. In this case, the music speaks for itself.

4. Lolawolf

Famous Person: Zoe Kravitz, who has appeared in X-Men, Mad Max, and all my style dreams.

Zoe is just so cool. I mean, just so, so cool. Her band, Lolawolf, is also ridiculously cool. The video for their track "AYO" is the stuff of all my '90s-inspired fever dreams.

5. Coconut Records

Famous Person: Jason Schwartzman, Wes Anderson dream boy extraordinaire.

You've probably heard of Phantom Planet, Jason's first band – they did "California", the iconic theme song for The O.C. But have you heard of Coconut Records? Jason's solo project after leaving Phantom Planet, it's not technically a band, but the music's legit enough it definitely deserves a spot on this list.

6. Juliette and the Licks

Famous Person: Juliette Lewis of Martin Scorsese hit Cape Fear.

Juliette's rock band were first active from 2003 to 2009, and recorded a few decent tunes in that time. They reformed last year and have a new album coming out soon – until then, I recommend listening to "Got Love to Kill" on repeat.

11. Fozzy

Famous Person: WWE star Chris Jericho.

One for the heavy metal lovers. I'm not a huge heavy metal fan *personally*, but I'm told Fozzy is very good heavy metal. Please let me know if this is true in the comments.

12. Hollywood Vampires

Famous Person: Johnny Depp, of the Apology Video to Australia.

WHAT IS IT WITH HOLLYWOOD PEOPLE AND THE SUPERNATURAL? What is the mysterious pull of horror and ghost stories on the Tinseltowners of Hollywood? I must know. Please tell me.

Seriously though, Johnny Depp's new rock band with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry are worth a listen – they're surprisingly decent.

13. Name TBD

Famous Person: Scarlett Johansson, she of the golden locks and man-eating alien performance.

No, Scarlett's band isn't called Name TBD. Though that would actually be quite witty. Scarlett's band used to be called The Singles, but it turned out there was already a band with that name, so they have to come up with a new one. I think they should use Name TBD.

Name dramas aside though, their debut single is actually really good. Hurry up and come up with a band name, Scarlett, I want more of this sweet synth-y pop please.

14. The Rentals

Derek Wooden / Via Facebook: therentals

Famous Person: Maya Rudolph of Saturday Night Live and Bridesmaids.

Maya isn't part of The Rentals any more (she used to play keys and sing for them back in the '90s), but that doesn't mean you shouldn't listen to these guys – their recent stuff is a symphony of updated '90s sounds.

16. Mister Heavenly

Jacqueline Dimilia / Via Facebook: misterheavenly

Famous Person: Michael Cera of Superbad, Juno, Arrested Development...etc.

Michael did a stint as the bassist for indie rockers Mister Heavenly. I'm using his name as a flimsy excuse to put these guys in here – you *need* to hear "Bronx Sniper". It's so good.

CORRECTION

Chris Jericho is a WWE star. An earlier version of this post stated that he was a WWF star. We live in hope that he does someday become a WWF star though. The pandas need all the help they can get.
