Kanye West Explained Why He Bought A House Across The Street From Kim Kardashian Amid Their Divorce

"My solace comes from seeing my kids."

Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from Kanye West last February, after almost seven years of marriage.

The rapper has publicly expressed his hopes for reconciliation — in both song lyrics and interviews — multiple times since then, and continued to criticize Kim's reported relationship with SNL's Pete Davidson even after he started dating actor Julia Fox.

Of all his comments and gestures involving Kim amid their divorce, Kanye's decision to purchase a home across the street from her and their children was one of the most widely discussed.

The Donda artist and former KUWTK star share four children: 8-year-old North, 6-year-old Saint, 4-year-old Chicago, and 2-year-old Psalm.

Fans and news outlets alike scrutinized Kanye's recent real estate purchase, and the motives behind it, for pretty obvious reasons. But during an appearance on Hollywood Unlocked this week, the Yeezy designer said media reports "flipped" the story to suggest "there was something wrong with [him] getting a house next to [his] kids."

Kanye went on to explain that he chose a residential location close to Kim's home because doing so meant his children would still live nearby. "My solace comes from seeing my kids and getting a solid schedule," he shared. "That's why I even got the house."

In a general sense, of course this rationale checks out. But choosing to live in the same zip code as your ex partner, and choosing to live on the same street, are really two different things.

Kanye previously referenced his and Kim's kids when discussing their divorce on Revolt's Drink Champs YouTube series in November. At the time, he said he wanted their parents to "be together."
