Dear Bruce Jenner,
Please, if you have a moment, hear me out. I know that's a lot to ask. It's undeniable that, over the past few years, I have made fun of your appearance (at times, rather mercilessly), but I'm not joking now.
When news broke that you are actually transitioning into a woman, I realized that I've made your battles with self-perceptions more difficult, ridiculing you as I have. I've been completely in the wrong, and I feel it necessary to say, with all sincerity, I'm sorry.
It was easy to look at pictures online, read stories in magazines, and assume that you were merely having a mid-life crisis, modeled after the Kurrent fashion so as to garner optimal attention. It was easier, with that line of thinking, to see you as a character in a made-up weekly Khronicle. It was easiest to ignore the truth of a non-trivial, very difficult, personal reality.
If it takes a certain kind of bravery to be yourself, then it takes a certain kind of support to continue in that way. I hope that, as you go forward in your transition, you will find just that. If anything, you will find just that in me.
Sincerely,
Emmy Kingman (@EmKingman)
