People Are Saying Lindsay Lohan's Defence Of Harvey Weinstein Is A Perfect Example Of Rape Culture

The criticism came after the actress shared a video in which she defended the movie executive, saying she felt "very bad" for him and that he'd "never harmed" her.

Last week the New York Times alleged that Harvey Weinstein has been sexually harassing women "for decades" – claims he denies as "patently false".

Yesterday, an expansive story from The New Yorker chronicled further allegations of sexual malfeasance on the part of Weinstein, including claims of harassment and, for the first time, rape.

After the story was published, more women came forward with allegations of harassment and assault, and Weinstein's wife, Georgina Chapman, announced that she is leaving him.

Since the first allegations surfaced, many celebrities have spoken out against Weinstein and extended support to the alleged victims.

However, today Lindsay Lohan has spoken in support of Weinstein, saying that she feels "very bad" for him.

Speaking in Instagram Stories that have since been deleted, Lohan said:

Hi, this is Lindsay Lohan. I'm in Dubai, I'm home. I feel very bad for Harvey Weinstein right now. I don't think it's right what's going on. I think Georgina needs to take a stand and be there for her husband.

In a second clip, she said she'd worked with Weinstein several times – on the films Bobby and Scary Movie 5 – and that he'd "never harmed" her.

    She said:

He's never harmed me or done anything wrong to me, and we've done several movies together. So I think everyone needs to stop. It's wrong. So stand up.

Lohan's comments come in the wake of designer Donna Karan being widely criticised for her statement on the matter, in which she said that women were complicit in their own sexual harassment by dressing in such a way that they were "asking for it".

And many people suggested that Lohan's comments similarly perpetuate rape culture.

This is textbook rape culture. And Lindsay Lohan’s defense is absolutely a product of internalised misogyny derived…

Lindsay Lohan dismissing sex crimes because "Weinstein never did it to her," is exactly why rape culture exists.

Lindsay Lohan saying “it never happened to me, so it’s all garbage” is EXACTLY the problem with the world. Fuck. Listen to other experiences

Donna Karan and Lindsay Lohan are officially "on my list"!!! 😐😑 #rapeculture #misogyny #patriarchy #YesAllWomen

Well @lindsaylohan can fuck right off with her rape apologism. I guess she is a mean girl after all...

A spokesperson for Lindsay Lohan has been contacted for comment.
