The "Lizzie McGuire" Writers Had A Video Chat After Hilary Duff Said She Hoped To Compromise With Disney+ On The Reboot, And Fans Are Very Excited

The photo comes just two weeks after Hilary Duff revealed she "hoped" to reach a compromise with Disney+ following their clash over the portrayal of Lizzie in the reboot.

After months of drama surrounding the reboot of iconic '00s show Lizzie McGuire, it seems that good news might be on the horizon.

I’m sure you'll remember that back in January it was announced that production on the highly anticipated reboot had shut down after just two episodes, with the series creator also reportedly fired from the project.

At the time, Disney+ released a statement citing creative differences as the reason for production being halted and said it planned to "put a new lens" on the series.

And it quickly became apparent that those "creative differences" were due to Disney+ wanting a show that was "family-friendly," while the series creator and Hilary Duff herself were hoping to portray a more mature version of the character.

Hilary not only took to Instagram to shade Disney+ for not moving the show over to Hulu, but also shared a statement saying she'd be "doing a disservice to everyone" by attempting to make the life of a 30-year-old woman "PG".

Hilary's comments were echoed by the series creator and showrunner, Terri Minsky, who told Variety: "I am so proud of the two episodes we did. Hilary has a grasp of Lizzie McGuire at 30 that needs to be seen. It's a wonderful thing to watch."

However, two weeks ago, Hilary said that discussions between her and Disney+ were still ongoing, adding that she was hopeful they might reach some form of compromise.

“There’s still conversations going on in hopes that we can find a way to meet in the middle and both bend a little bit,” she told People. “I understand that they have to protect their brand and there’s pretty strict guidelines on what that looks like.”

Well, it seems like those conversations might have been productive. Because, earlier this week, the writers of the show got together for a Zoom meeting where they may have been discussing the project again.

And several of the writers posted photo of the call on Instagram.

"Lizzie McGuire reboot bunch," wrote one alongside the picture.

"Will conquer my virtual meeting anxiety for this special brunch," wrote another.

But perhaps most importantly, the series creator and showrunner, Terri Minsky, was on the call too, suggesting that she might be involved in the reboot again.

Now, it could just be that the writers got together for a virtual catch up with friends during quarantine and the call had nothing to do with work. But fans of the show immediately took to social media to speculate about the meeting, and express their excitement.

In fact, after the @peterstanslizzie fan account posted the photo on Instagram, the comments were flooded with messages from hopeful fans.

So here's hoping that the meeting was to discuss scripts and it spells good news for the reboot. After all, we could really do with some!
