Kendall Jenner has wanted to be a model since the age of 14, and announced her career ambitions on an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Obviously.
And over the past year she has become a pretty huge deal in the modelling world, walking the runway for Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, DVF, Donna Karan, Vera Wang, Michael Kors, and Oscar de la Renta.
She also secured a deal with Estée Lauder as the global face of the brand, and last year was the second most googled model IN THE WORLD after Kate Upton.
All of which is pretty fricking badass if you ask us.
But it seems to have come at a cost, with reports that Kendall is being bullied by her fellow high-fashion models refusing to go away.
In September last year, Kendall made her New York Fashion Week debut. Despite walking for some of the biggest designers in the world, there were rumours that she was picked on by other models backstage.
A source told InTouch:
The other models worked so hard to get a spot on the runway and didn't think it was fair she was there. Some [of the models] put out their cigarettes in Kendall's drink. They thought she was getting special treatment and just weren't OK with it.
Kendall's mother, Kris Jenner, was quick to deny the reports, saying they were "150% not true".
Kris told Fashion Week Daily:
I would like to set the record straight and say it's 150% not true. They have been so welcoming, especially at the Tommy Hillfiger show. At all of the shows, all of the girls have been so darling. It's like a sorority. It's really amazing and heartwarming the way they've welcomed her into their world and treated her like a sister.
Around the same time, Kendall gave an interview in which she said her famous name had actually made it harder for her to achieve her modelling aspirations.
Speaking to LOVE magazine, Kendall said:
I was like, 'You know what? I want to be high fashion. I want to be taken seriously.' People think that this [success] just came to me. But it didn't. What I have has almost worked against me. I had to work even harder to get where I wanted because people didn't take me seriously as a model. I went on castings and some people weren't feeling me because of my name.
She went on to reveal that she'd even told her half-sister Kim Kardashian to stay away from her big fashion shows.
Kendall said:
Kim was invited to a lot of the shows that I was in. She called me before and was like, 'Hey, I was invited to the show. I just wanted to let you know. Do you want me to come?' and I was like, 'No.'
Then came an open letter from another model, Arisce Wanzer, who claimed Kendall had achieved success far more easily than other models and attempted to justify the alleged behaviour of the other models.
She said:
Take a moment and remove yourself from your current situation, if you can, to a life that isn't riddled with excess and only hearing the word "yes" to your wants and requests. Now, imagine you're from a small town and/or Third-World country where your only way to get out of your current social class, achieve your dreams, get a green card or just gain better work conditions is to become a high-fashion model. ...
Did I mention you're only 17 when all of this goes down? That means you have to go to tutoring and/or English lessons in between learning how to "walk" at the agency, attending castings every other day, going on test shoots to get you experience, trying to learn your new neighborhood, going to the gym and hoping to maybe make some money all at once. Oh, and your apartment and test shoots aren't free, by the way. They are added to your account with the agency, as are your casting outfits and cellphone. These are going to leave you in some serious debt if nobody books you for anything; some girls owe upward of $30,000 after a year of trying to book gigs, so take that into perspective as well, Miss Jenner.
Wanzer went on to say that encountering a "reality show star" at work undervalues the sense of achievement other models have worked hard for.
But wait, isn't that a reality TV star over there in hair and makeup? Yeah, that's definitely a Kardashian or something. What is she doing here? Did she take the subway? Was she at the casting? What agency is she with? I didn't see her last season … Does she need MORE fame? MORE money? A green card perhaps? Doesn't she get enough cash from that show that all of ignorant America glamorizes? Her mommy surely called a top agency, got her in the door and the design houses just chose to milk her fame like the cash cow that it is. One by one like dominos from Vogue to Givenchy, fashion is selling out to the ignorant masses for money. What happened to the art, the cerebral part of fashion? Did it really all die with Alexander McQueen? Well, there goes the neighborhood, I guess. Gone is the prestige you once felt as a "chosen one" by Marc, Anna or Ricardo — this cheapens your entire experience.
Neither Arisce Wanzer (below right) or Kendall have responded to reports about the open letter.
Then came the teaser trailer for the latest season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, which is unlikely to help the "family connections" claims.
In it, Kim is seen saying: "I'm not buying her a pair of fucking shoes, I bought her a fucking career."
Up until this point, reports of a rift between Kendall and other models had been largely based on rumour. But then two models allegedly left comments on a photo of Kendall on Instagram for the world to see.
The photo showed Kendall backstage at the Donna Karan show in New York last week and was posted by Vogue Germany.
It wasn't long before two models Kendall has worked with, Lexi Boling and Binx Walton, allegedly left these pretty mean comments that have since been deleted. Lexi, who walked with Kendall during the Donna Karan show, posted this:
Binx then responded, saying:
After the messages were noticed by Kendall's fans, Lexi (pictured here with Kendall) issued a brief statement to E! News apologising for the comments.
Kendall once again kept a dignified silence. However, her fans have spoken out in her defence and we say GOOD ON THEM.
We reckon Kendall is one seriously talented, gorgeous young woman and should be left alone. You stay fabulous.
