Kim Kardashian Says Kendall Felt "Really Awful" About The Pepsi Advert

This is the first time any of the Kardashian/Jenners have spoken about the controversial advert that was pulled in April.

Back in April a Pepsi advert starring Kendall Jenner caused uproar.

The advert centred around a protest. Kendall was shown stumbling across the rally, grabbing a can of Pepsi, and handing it to one of the police offers monitoring the protest. Peace was then restored.

Many people were upset with the visual depiction of Kendall handing the Pepsi to the police officer, which they said resembled the iconic photo of Black Lives Matter protester Ieshia Evans being arrested.

@GrimmKardashian They're trying to recreate the second image which is just mind boggling. This commercial makes me… https://t.co/pvPUgyHpOK

And people were really mad.

Within 24 hours, Pepsi pulled the commercial and issued a statement of apology.

It said it'd "missed the mark" with the advert and had never intended to "make light of any serious issue".

Kendall didn't issue a statement at the time, and none of the Kardashian/Jenners have publicly spoken about the incident since. Until now. During her appearance on Watch What Happens Live over the weekend, Kim Kardashian was asked what she made of the controversy.

Kim said Kendall had felt "really awful" about it, but "understood" the criticism.

She said:

She totally understood at the end of the day, and she felt really awful for it. She just wants to move on from it.

She went on to say that Kendall had "no bad intentions" in doing the advert.

I think any time someone does anything, they don't have bad intentions of doing it a certain way. Especially Kendall. She's so sensitive, she would never mean for anybody to perceive things in a negative way.

Kim also revealed that she hadn't seen the advert until it had received a backlash, and so her personal opinion of it was distorted.

I didn't see it until it had already got all the attention. I was travelling and landed and saw it all on social media. And so I obviously had a different perspective when everyone's already saying something.

BuzzFeed has contacted a spokesperson for Kendall Jenner for comment.
