Khloe Kardashian Had No Idea Why This Instagram Photo Was "Culturally Offensive"

She has apologised for posting the image with the caption, "Sheik Pussy."

Back in October, Khloe Kardashian shared this photo of her with Scott Disick and their friend, Chris Reda, for Halloween. She posted it on Instagram alongside the caption: "Sheik Pussy".

The snap shows Khloe dressed as a cat in a lace mask that partially covered her face, and Scott and Chris in traditional Arabian clothing. Scott explained his choice of clothing by saying: "I've always wanted to be a Saudi Prince, so when the Lordship doesn't take you far enough..."

Khloe was hit with a barrage of criticism after posting the image, with Instagram users calling her "culturally insensitive" and "offensive".

But in the latest episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Khloe is seen taking the photo, reading the comments and expressing confusion as to why the responses were so negative.

The episode showed Khloe, Scott, and Chris posing for the photo before she shared it on Instagram.

And after Khloe decided on the caption: "Sheik Pussy," Scott can be heard saying, "There's going to be some disturbing comments to that picture".

Within seconds, Khloe was seen reading a whole range of negative comments, and at times laughing in disbelief.

The comments she read aloud ranged from, "This is inappropriate, wow this is so fucked up," to "Wow, that's offensive. Can't expect anything less from a Kardashian," and "What an asshole you are."

As the comments streamed in, Khloe repeatedly asked why she was being so heavily criticised. She said: "I just wrote "Sheik Pussy." Wait, what's wrong with it? I don't understand. Nothing is nice so far, what is happening?!"

And after receiving the comment, "It's a culture, not a costume," she said: "I'm not in a Muslim anything – I'm not even in a costume."

Some time later, Khloe made a trip to her clothing store DASH, where she asked two Muslim employees whether they'd found her photo and caption offensive.

The first employee, Durrani, said: "To me, personally, no. I don't think it's the caption, I think it's because you were covered."

Khloe replied: "So it wasn't what I said, it was how we looked?"

The second employee, Nazy, however disagreed and said it was the caption that she found offensive.

She said: "I don't think the whole covering thing was an issue. I think what's more upsetting is just the words."

After the discussion with Durrani and Nazy, Khloe apologised for posting the image and caption, and said that she'd be more sensitive in future.

She said: "After talking with Nazy and Durrani, I'm really upset that I've offended anybody. I'm even more bothered that the commenters think I'm poking fun at their culture. I didn't realise how offensive it was. I didn't know I was doing anything wrong. I really just have to be more aware of what I write, even if I think it's tongue in cheek and I have to be more sensitive to that. I'm sorry to anybody I offended. That was the last thing I ever wanted to do."
