25 Things That'll Save You Money In The Long Run

A wine filter that'll help cause fewer headaches, a reliable drugstore foundation, a book on negotiating that's actually a fun read, and more.

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, BuzzFeed may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

    1. A stingray drain cover that'll make you actually enjoy looking in your kitchen sink. *Plus* it'll save your kitchen sink pipes because it catches food scraps before they migrate down there, stink up your kitchen, and cause some major plumbing problems.

    Amazon

Get it from Amazon for $5.49+ (available in three colors).

    2. Stainless-steel-effect contact paper to get you the look of fresh appliances for chump change. (Why is stainless steel sooo pricey? This is a question I have for the fancy ppl in the back.)

    amazon.com

And when you move or change your mind, you can easily remove or reposition it!

Promising review: "Amazing job at updating my wall oven. I searched for months trying to see what would be an alternative replacement to my dated wall oven (25 years old). The thing is, my old oven has always worked very well, so I couldn't really justify paying $2,000 to replace my working double wall oven only because of cosmetic reasons. Then it dawned on me that maybe if I updated the oven with this metal covering it would look like real stainless steel. So for literally the cost of $10 I updated my oven. The update is virtually unnoticeable unless you tell someone, and what's the best thing of all, it leaves no fingerprints. Best $10 I ever spent." —B. Lenj

Get an 18"x6' roll from Amazon for $10.50.

    3. And marble-print contact paper that'll seriously zhuzh up a countertop or piece of furniture. You don't need a new coffee table! You can need a weekend afternoon and a roll of this stuff to transform things!

    amazon.com

Promising review: "I do not have the money for a new vanity right now. Insert DIY project of covering my ugly pink bathroom vanity in marble contact paper. It looks 100% better and it’s super durable. It’s a little tricky to work with at first and then you get the hang of it. I’m buying more for my half bath!

Update: my vanity still looks great a couple months later! I decided to do my tabletop in my laundry room and it looks great too!

Tips: make sure there is nothing on the surface as bumps will show through with the tiniest of debris. Also, one roll is not enough, always buy more than you think you’ll need!" —Natalie Evans

Get an 11.8"x78.7" roll from Amazon for $5.89.

    4. A bendy travel pillow for anyone who's always game for the cheap seats on the plane or a train to make a vacation fit their budget... but then thinks "What have I done to myself?" as soon as they get seated. Buy that seat, bring this versatile pillow.

    Amazon

Promising review: "This travel pillow design is simply brilliant! You can bend it into whatever shape your heart (or neck) desires! The memory foam is 150x better than the beads or stiff foam you find in most travel pillows. Also, unlike most travel pillows, the case is removable for easy cleaning. The cover is also super soft; it reminds me of a jersey T-shirt material. Talk about versatile also - I use it as lumbar support/comfort and my son uses it as a lap pillow when watching his iPad. Just buy it!!" —Tiffany Wood

Get it from Amazon for $24.99 (also available in navy).

    5. A budget-friendly medium-coverage foundation (also available in a ~glowy~ version) to give you a smooth and flawless looking finish that your department store foundation simply won't. I should know, I just switched to it!

    Sarah Han / BuzzFeed

I swapped to this after I saw my colleague Sarah Han (pictured here wearing it!) put it in one of her stories with the following *glowing* review:

"This a true medium-finish foundation for me, and I seriously have never loved a drugstore foundation more! It glides on and instantly smooths out any stress-induced texture, while also lending a healthy radiance to my skin. Read my full review on the Revlon candid anti-pollution foundations for more deets (#8)!"

Promising review (for Candid Natural): "Found this accidentally while trying to find a foundation shade to match my complexion. I tried the super expensive brands with little luck, but right in the local pharmacy was this secret. I love this foundation — it has quick, easy coverage and stays all day with a tiny amount of setting powder. I have an all-year tanned complexion with some hyperpigmentation, and this works amazingly well. Refused to wear foundation until I found this one — it doesn’t make me look like a zebra." —Ashwanie Dyalram

Get the Candid Natural version from Amazon for $3.98+ (available in 30 shades) or Moisture Glow for $6.99+ (available in 16 shades).

    6. A wine filter you can swish in your glass to help combat the sulfites and histamines in that delicious glass, aka the stuff that can give you a wicked hangover. Here's to not paying $20 for a hangover burrito, as I imagine hungover folks might crave. Lil' ole me has no experience with that whatsoever.

    Amazon

Promising review: "Love how well they work and how portable and convenient they are! I could not drink any wine for years due to the histamines and sulfates in wine causing sinus headaches and nausea the next day and made me feel hungover from one glass. So happy I found this product and can enjoy wine again without any allergy symptoms, headaches, sinus issues, nausea or allergy hangovers! This is the best by far! You must try it! You will be so happy you did!" —KW

    Get a three-pack from Amazon for $11.99.

    7. Or wine drops as a less weird-looking option to use in public.

    Amazon

Promising review: "This product was really amazing. I buy a lot of stuff on Amazon and never write a review, however this product is worth writing one. I've used the Wand as well and like it, however the biggest drawback of the Wand is having to explain why I'm using it to others and causing undue attention. This is a quick solution to that issue. The product itself works great. I get bad headaches whenever I drink wine, however with this product I'm able to drink two to three glasses without the headaches. I'm not sure exactly what causes the headaches, whether it's tannins, sulfites, etc., however I just know this cures the issue. I'm sure there are those who are skeptical, I certainly was, but I can truly say it works for me and hopefully others will find success using it as well." —luke

Get it from Amazon for $14.99.

    8. A set of wood repair markers that'll help ya' hide scratches and dents on your dining room table legs that get a bunch of wear and tear but your guests can see. We love a repair instead of a replacement product!

    Amazon, amazon.com

Promising review: "I can’t believe how well these work! Much better than I was expecting. I just had my home interior painted and the painters damaged a fiberboard medicine cabinet when they removed the masking tape. It ripped off the fake wood veneer. These markers completely filled in the ugly spots and the colors blended well. I love that it appears to have some clear coat in it too as it dries with a slight shine that makes it look more like wood stain rather than marker. I also used them to stain wood filler in two spots in my maple kitchen cabinets where a previous home owner had hung a paper towel holder and I really struggle to see the hole! It looks fantastic. I highly recommend this set. It’s a good value and works very well." —Shane

Get a set of 13 from Amazon for $9.99.

    9. And 16-pack of furniture socks to help blend in with those furniture legs and keep them safe from your Roomba's reign of cleaning terror. Plus, it'll help prevent some scratches on your precious wood floor!

    Amazon, amazon.com

Promising review: "Purchased these to prevent our Roomba from causing further damage to furniture legs. They stay in place (even on tapered legs), blend in on similar colored furniture, and it only took a few weeks before my wife stopped making fun of me for installing these socks on our end tables, coffee tables, and TV stand." —A Customer

Get them from Amazon for $8.80.

    10. Never Split the Difference, a book on negotiating that'll teach you techniques to help get your way, like mirroring the other person's actions, using your soothing radio voice, and more clever tricks. Whether you're hankering for a raise at work or planning on buying a car soon, it'll come in handy.

    Amazon

I just read this about a month ago after I saw it in the Mrs. Dow Jones book club. It's extremely easy to read and includes real-life situations when the author (who's an actual hostage negotiator!) talked through critical standoffs. OK, so if you're pressed for time you can probably skip over those parts because there are incredibly helpful tips after that. Just check out this detailed review about the tactics used when a reviewer bought a car.

Promising review: "This is a fantastic book. I am the chief negotiator of contracts for a very large hospital system. This book not only helped me in negotiations, but also in day-to-day interactions. It is more of a psychology book applied in negotiations. It also helped my marriage. Lastly, I negotiated a very large raise using Chris' tactics." —Catie

Get it from Amazon for $19.59+.

    11. And Investing 101: From Stocks and Bonds to ETFs and IPOs, an Essential Primer on Building a Profitable Portfolio for anyone who's googled "What's a bond?" in an incognito window — and just about everyone else too.

    Amazon

Promising review: "Most investment books I've read are generally worthless, with the author's ego and business motives being the highlight. With Investing 101, I struck gold! It is a perfect lexicon of facts and information. It describes all the language and terminology, number and formula, and strategies used by different investors. It's concise and easy to understand. The information provided has given me enough knowledge to begin trying investing on my own. Excellent resource." —Deborah Walker

Get it from Amazon for $6.99.

    12. An at-home teeth whitening kit that uses whitening gel, a tray, and an LED light that'll give you a ~dramatic~ shade difference, lest you drop a couple hundo at the dentist in the pursuit of whiter chompers.

    amazon.com, amazon.com

Promising review: "This whitening system is very simple and way less messy than strips or some of the other trays. I have used both the custom tray and the regular one. I like the regular one personally. My teeth are at least five shades whiter and I haven't finished it yet. I'm so happy. Also my teeth aren't sensitive like they have been with other products. I couldn't be more satisfied. You won't regret getting this; it's worth every penny." —Regina

Get it from Amazon for $35.99.

    13. A darks detergent I swear by for keeping my almost-exclusively black wardrobe as dark as my taste in music. And it smells delightful without being too floral like most detergents.

    Amazon

It may sound silly to anyone not immediately drawn to this story to have a detergent made specifically for darks, but I can tell you this stuff is the real deal! I live on a fifth-floor walk-up NYC apartment in a building without laundry, so I send out most of my stuff for wash and fold service... except if it's black. I hand wash all my tights, dresses, bras, and other stuff that I care A LOT about at home in my shower. That normally consists of me washing whatever said garment in a large mixing bowl (designated for laundry!) in my shower and letting it sit. When I wash my garments with this the water is MUCH lighter than when I use a regular detergent, which always leaves the water looking very gray and therefore my clothes robbed of black dye! Plus I can tell it's gentler on my clothes than whatever my fave laundromat uses. All around, totally worth the investment!

Get it from Amazon for $16.61.

    14. A pack of collagen-infused eye masks that are soooo cheap but soooo effective at helping to de-puff your poor undereyes. There are much pricier versions of these and turns out, these work incredibly well for less!

    amazon.com, Amazon

Promising review: "This product is a MUST for anyone who struggles with puffy/dark under eyes! I have horrible under-eye bags thanks to poor genetics and wearing eyeglasses my entire life. At some point, I'm going to have plastic surgery but I will be using these eye masks every day until I can afford the time and money for the surgery. I've enclosed an ugly (but very honest) picture of the before and after results from using this product this morning. I woke up and immediately applied the eye mask. I then wore it for about 25 minutes under my eyeglasses while I went about my household chores until the pads completely dried. When I removed the mask, my under-eye area was looking way less puffy and much brighter than when I woke up. I love this product so much that I'm ordering five more packages today so I have a supply handy." —Mrs L

Get two packs of 30 from Amazon for $4.82.

    15. A foot peel mask to undo a winter's worth of dry skin for ya' instead of having to pay for a pedicure.

    amazon.com

Promising review: "Applied the peel and not much action for four days. And then, on day five, BAM, my foot exploded like a snake shedding its skin (and during yoga, no less). It was both awesome and terrible and I'm fully satisfied with this product." —Jennifer Astin

    Get a two-pack from Amazon for $17.95.

    16. And while we're on the topic of feet, washable cotton shoe insoles anyone who has super sweaty feet and has ever had to prematurely toss a pair of flats you can't wear with socks with thanks to that problem will appreciate.

    amazon.com, amazon.com

Promising review: "THESE SHOE LINERS CHANGED MY LIFE. okay that sounds dramatic but seriously. I order from Amazon constantly and I rarely leave reviews, but I had to share how amazing these are. For years I have struggled with my shoes, rarely letting myself wear dresses and cute outfits to work because socks would look silly, but if I wore flats or anything without socks my feet and the shoes would be stinking by the end of my shift. I would have to throw the shoes out almost immediately, bummer. But not anymore!! I bought the 3 pack and I have truly been liberated from the chains of stinky shoes. I don't even know how these work so well, I can feel my feet sweating just as much as before but at the end of the day my shoes smell powder-fresh. My point is if you have the same problems I did, GET THESE!! You won't regret it." —tilda

    Get a three-pack from Amazon for $21.16.

    17. Funk-killing spray you can use on your fam's shoes, sports equipment, most anything they sweat on and could use more than just a little wipe down.

I put the drops in, waited, then flushed my ear out with very warm water and OH MY GOSH... the gunk that came flowing out onto the towel blew my mind! It's amazing that I was ever able to hear at all with all that crap in my ear. This stuff works." —CD

    amazon.com

Promising review: "I am so thrilled with this stuff and how well it worked. I bought my house last year and the white kitchen sink already had some scratches and stains left from the previous owners and over time they only got worse. I tried so hard to get them out but nothing worked and I resigned myself to thinking I was just going to have to live with it until I forked over the money to get an entirely new sink. Enter this product that I ran across and figured I’d give a try because it couldn’t hurt and it’s so affordable there really wasn’t anything to lose. Much to my delight, it exceeded my expectations and got out all of the dingy stains and even some of the marks that I thought were just scratches and wouldn’t come out!
