However, I cannot neglect to mention the memory foam, too. As a person with both back and neck issues, this pillow is incredible. It blocks out 100% of the light, is light as a feather, and, best of all, has a marshmallow-soft cushioning that cups your entire eye making it a complete blackout for the best sleep. person wearing the heaband that's also headphones

Promising review: "I listen to podcasts at night to help me block out the thoughts of the day and help me sleep and have always used headphones so as not to wake my husband. But regular headphones are very uncomfortable when you are laying down, especially if you tend to sleep on your side — but these headphones solve the issue. They are comfortable and you can sleep on your side while barely noticing them. The sound quality is pretty good and the cord doesn't get in the way and hasn't shown any signs of fraying or wearing after about a month. The material is warm and cozy, but not too warm. And the headphones help block out outside noises too for a good night's rest." —Dog Lover

hand pressing into a memory foam pad topper on mattress

Promising review: "I bought this for my wife. She's pregnant and her hips had been aching sleeping on our mattress. Guess what? She says the pain is gone since we've been sleeping on this topper. The topper arrived quickly. I unpacked it and laid it on our floor so it could expand and air out. It didn't take long at all for it to expand. We put it on our bed the same evening it arrived at our house. I personally didn't find the smell to be too strong or offensive. I noticed it for 2–3 days, but that's about it. I've been sleeping better since getting the topper. It's prevented my shoulders from falling asleep when I sleep on my sides. I weigh about 200 lbs, my wife weighs about 150 lbs. (five months pregnant). I'm glad I didn't buy the 2-inch topper because I don't think that would have been thick enough." —Ryan M. Healy

Promising review: "We went from a traditional mattress to a Tempurpedic memory foam mattress (with a cooling gel layer) and we NEVER would have bought it if we realized it retains your body heat and holds it against you. It was too hot even in the winter and I'm always cold. I trusted the reviews of the this bamboo mattress topper and am SO happy I did. It made such a huge difference... I've been using it for over a month now and I haven't sweated once!!! We bought a split king so our mattress covers are twin XL." —Michelle

    10. A white noise machine to help block out the noises that keep you tossing and turning, like neighborhood dogs or an, um, active roommate.

    the white noise machine

Has two speeds. Like your active roommate.

Promising review: "We just moved to NYC and our apartment building is NOISY. Very noisy. Paper-thin walls, poor soundproofing, and fellow tenants who lead more exciting lifestyles than us (in and out at all hours of the day and night, parties, etc.), meant we were having seriously disturbed sleep. After extensive research I realized that a white noise machine would be our best chance of a good night's sleep and set out to choose one. This thing is like witchcraft — the disturbing noise from our building just seems to disappear. Even the clompy-shoe wearing insomniac who lives above us hasn't woken me up. It definitely takes a little getting used to. The instructions say a week and that is about right, but once you're adjusted it works really well. I'll admit, It's not the most attractive piece of kit, but it's not designed to be out on display for all to see so I don't have a problem with it. It's a case of function over form." —Mark H.

Get it from Amazon for $49.95.

    11. Or some contoured ear plugs as backup when the your partner's snoring in your ear while you spoon. Sweet but ugh.

Promising review: "I have medium back length locs (dreads), Silk headscarves on either slide of my head or my locs hang out so I thought I’d give this product a try.

    1) it’s pretty so I don’t feel like I’m actually wearing a bonnet lol

    2) it protects my edges and doesn’t slide off one bit due to the black elastic band

    3) I can use this as my locs continue to grow down my back

I will never purchase another silk head scarf again!!!" —Mrs. Smith

    Elizabeth Lilly / BuzzFeed

Getting sticker shock? You only use a few sprays so this thing'll last awhile. Plus I've woken up lots of mornings in my life wishing I'd paid $25 for just one night of good sleep. The packaging recs spraying it on your bedding but I find a spray on each of my queen-size bed's two pillows is plenty to help put me in the mood to drool all over my pillows. That's how you KNOW the sleep is good (or at least for me). It's fine to spray right before getting into bed *and* will even look nice sitting on your nightstand in case you're someone (like me) who remembers all the things you need to do before bed once you crawl into bed.

bottle of the tablets on a polka dot background with hand showing the dime size of the tablet
    Elizabeth Lilly / BuzzFeed

If you haven't already guessed from my various sleep aids mentioned above, I'm not the best sleeper. I've had a bottle of these parked on my nightstand for the past few months and (as of publish) have used them at least five times when I've woken up in the middle of the night (not exactly at 3 a.m. each time but in that general area). They're super easy to either chew or let dissolve, meaning you don't need to wash it down with a gulp of water. I even chewed it with my night guard in, which is gross but helpful info! But most importantly, they helped me go back to sleep quickly without weird side effects.

Promising review: "I do not ever write product reviews, but I just feel the need to share with other women that sleep hot, how great these pajamas are! They are so soft and comfy! I've been sleeping great since I've been wearing these PJs. I sleep hot and usually will wake up every night with the night sweats or the overheated feeling, but I've yet to have this issue with these bamboo PJs. I seem to keep an even body temperature all night long. After sleeping in them for two nights I was convinced these are the answer to a cooler and better sleep, so I ordered more. I normally wear a size small, so I ordered a small and they fit perfectly!! I think that I'll also order these PJs with the pants, for lounging around the house. You can take one to four, depending on how much help you need to fall asleep. One will help you relax, but I usually take three to just knock me right out. I typically don't like to take things like melatonin, because I feel pretty woozy the next day, but these taste just like a chocolate dessert and leave no nasty hangover. Plus, they're all-natural!
