30 Practical Things That’ll Help You Get Ready For Fall

Easy buys that'll make this chilly season feel, well, chill.

    1. An adjustable window screen that'll allow those fall breezes inside and give your A/C a break after a tiresome (for it) summer. AND it'll keep your pets inside and the bugs outside!

    2. And if leaving your windows open/unlocked makes you nervous (I get it!), a motion sensor you can place on your partially opened window to act like your guard dog while ya' snooze. And if you upgrade this plan, you can save on homeowner's insurance!

    3. A ~wild~ pullover sweater or cardigan as a layering piece to add to your wardrobe, even if you swore you're not buying a bunch of new fall clothes this year. (Same.)

    4. A six-pack of moth traps to park in all your closets because, tbh, moths are a problem year-round but you don't think about them 'til you crack open that coat closet post–Labor Day. Seriously, lay off my outerwear!

    5. A magnetic brooch ready for apple-picking szn with a loop to hold your glasses when you're not wearing them — meaning no holes in your nice shirts or MIA glasses.

    6. A boot tray to contain the mess from your family's footwear after trudging through seasonal corn mazes or just raking the leaves in the yard.

    7. And a ~washable~ door mat in fall colors you can park inside before you get to the boot tray so your fam can wipe off their dirty shoes before storing them. And it just looks so nice!

    8. A waffle-knit top you can wear off the shoulder or tucked into your bottoms for when there's a chill but you don't wanna pull on a sweater just yet. Plus, it's thin enough to fit under your snugger outerwear (looking @ you, leather moto jacket).

    9. A door draft stopper the least handy person in the world could handle installing to prevent cold gusts from coming indoors. Don't make your heating system work harder than it has to! Bc $$$!

    10. And a roll of thick foam tape weatherstripping even YOU can handle installing on doors where you can normally feel the fall gusts creeping in. No more!

    11. A huggable llama heating pad to cuddle with on colder nights... or just when you're cramping a bit and could use some toasty relief.

    12. An odor-killing Pumpkin Spice candle anyone with pets, sweaty kids, or any household smells PERIOD will be so glad they've bought. Trust me, everything from English bullie slobber to roasted Brussels sprouts is *handled*.

    13. A self-inflating bleacher cushion you'll be able to easily pack for whatever event leaves you on a hard piece of metal for hours at a time. Maybe if your team loses you'll feel a lil' less *sore* about it.

    14. Super low-cut socks to wear with all those not-sandals you have in your closet. Sneakers, loafers, ballet flats, so many possibilities! Do NOT wear tights or real socks 'til you really have to.

    15. A guide on tending to your plant bbs that've somehow survived all summer indoors and are now facing a change in the indoor weather. Help them survive! (And save money by not buying replacements.)

    16. Slip-proof slippers so you can avoid turning up the heat *too* much (bc $!) and scoot around inside on your hardwood floors without pulling a Risky Business.

    17. A durable waxed canvas log carrier in case you have a wood-burning fireplace and a woodpile outside. The kind that opens flat is WAY easier to load/unload than those tote bag-like jokers. Trust me.

    18. Waterproof globe string lights that'll make a big impact when hung along your roofline, draped on outdoor structures like a pergola, or just strung up solo so you can enjoy the lights *and* the stars. Prepare to spend sooo much more time on your well-lit patio during the longer nights.

    19. And solar lights you can stake along your walkway because even though the sun is setting earlier (NOOOOO!!!!!), you still need to be able to *safely* navigate your driveway and walkway while carrying groceries.

    20. And AND motion-activated lights mounted on a fence, wall, or other backyard-facing structure that'll alert you and whatever may be lurking out there (like your puppy?!) to movement past sunset.

    21. Reusable toaster bags to whip up some mouthwatering grilled cheese in the toaster without worrying about crumbs or smoking cheese. Now that it's not 1000% humidity outside, you can finally enjoy a hot sandwich!

    22. Chelsea rain boots you can rely on for those fall days with a dismal forecast now that you can't get away with wearing your boat shoes on rainy summer days. Plus, these are so close to *regular* boots that it'll be NBD if it turns out to be a gorgeous sunny day.

    23. A lightweight crepe jacket to throw on over all those floral dresses you've been wearing all summer because despite your recent stylish acquisitions, it is NOT sweater dress–weather yet!

    24. A super hydrating/cooling eye stick to give your peepers some relief because they're ALREADY acting up with seasonal dryness.

    25. A lip sleeping mask to help rejuvenate your pout from the wear and tear of matte lipsticks and fall gusts.

    26. Storage loops you can use to wind up your garden hoses and hang up in the garage — lest they catch a cold and freeze outside!

    27. A super helpful downspout extender tol help divert your downspout water away from your house, which can help avoid a leaky basement and all kinds of icy nonsense near your home's foundation. Yes, it's in time for Halloween but gargoyles are year-round creatures! Do NOT @ me!

    28. An SPF 50 essence sunscreen with a serum-like texture that'll soak into your skin and feel less like the stuff you slather on at the beach. Yes it's fall now and you DO still need to wear sunscreen on your face. Who wants to get sunburned while apple-picking?!

    29. A lightweight water-resistant down coat as a topper against the fall chill that'll pack down to fit in a small bag. Affordable, available in eight colors, and easy to transport? Sign me up!

    30. A cleaning stone that'll help revive those grill racks on your tailgate grill as a non-toxic option! We want ~clean~ grill marks on those pre-game burgers, OK?!
