37 Products For People Who Love Makeup, But Suck At Putting It On

Eyeshadow shields to catch your fallout, redness-cancelling moisturizer, and cat eye eyeliner stamps so you can do a little more than ~wing~ it.

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, BuzzFeed may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

    1. A winged eyeliner stamp in case you've spent what feels like an eternity working on your flick to no avail. Same.,

Promising review: "I am not one to write reviews often, but this product has exceeded my expectations! I normally use liquid liners such as Kat Von D Tattoo, but this has drastically reduced the time it takes for me to create a winged look! I personally prefer a longer wing, but this stamp provides a template to work with and reduces the amount of time to create ‘sister’ wings — they’re pretty much twins now! The eyeliner pen itself it’s a bit broad for me, but the pigment is great!" —Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $14.97 (available in two sizes).

    2. A blurring primer for helping smooth out pores and fine lines for a smooth foundation application. Prepping your skin with the (v easy) priming step will make your makeup look so much nicer!

pic of person's nose with visible pores and blackhead, then same nose without those pores visible thanks to the primer

A bottle of this is currently sitting on my vanity! I've used lots of makeup primers (luxury and drugstore) in the past decade or so and this is my favorite. It's stickier than other primers and moves with my skin — all while feeling light and not like I have an extra layer on my face. I have a lot of acne scarring, some visible pores, and some forehead wrinkles, and this primer helps my liquid foundation glide over my skin so much more easily. The thing about this primer is, once you start using it you may hate all other primers because they'll seemingly do nothing in comparison!

Promising review: "I love the product! Very smooth and easy to apply! One pump does the trick! My makeup applies easily after applying this primer!" —Jasmine

Get it from Amazon for $15.50. Paraben-, sulfate-, phthalate-, and cruelty-free.

    3. An SPF 30 color-correcting treatment to help light-complected folks cancel out all sorts of redness thanks to its green-to-beige formula that'll feel oh-so-cool going onto your skin. Some reviewers even use it in lieu of foundation or a BB cream because it works *that* well.

the story with the color-correcting treatment on half her face, then half of it without and looking red like it's sunburned
    Elizabeth Lilly / BuzzFeed

This is one of my holy grails! THOUGH, if you're a person of color this may not be your fave (hello, free Sephora returns). My skin veers on the ruddy side and I use this almost every day under my foundation. But some reviewers say they use it in place of foundation like a CC cream thanks to its color-correcting prowess and SPF formula. (IMO, it works better than Smashbox Photo Finish Reduce Redness Primer.) Made without parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.

Promising review: "I honestly can't believe how much I love this stuff. I got a sample of it three days ago and am buying it immediately. I suffer from major redness on and around my nose that, when paired with my uber pale skin, constantly needs to be color corrected. For the last five years I've layered on concealer and color correcting makeup — not anymore! One thin layer of this and I feel totally down for going foundation-free for literally the first time in years. My skin is already thanking me." —KimberlynLouise

Get it from Sephora for 18+ (available in two sizes).

    4. A translucent setting powder people of color swear by thanks to the way it'll blend in perfectly with zero flashback and keep your foundation set for life. Jk. Just the day. But still!, Amazon

I use this and it's HUGE. Plus, like the reviewer below says, a little goes a long way. I've had mine for almost a year and may have to order some more in ~a month.

Promising review: "For people of colors. As an African American female, this provides beautiful coverage and smooths out little imperfections. Just a CAVEAT: A little goes a long way." —Bella Cieli Vox

Get it from Amazon for $5.97+ (available in six variations, including extra coverage).

    5. And a matte setting spray to make it look like you're not sweating it, EVEN IN FLORIDA HUMIDITY.

Promising review: "Rarely do I post reviews regarding makeup/facial products because in the long run, I'm usually disappointed. Well, I've used this product six times in the roaring heat here in Florida, and let me tell ya...I was, and still am impressed at how flawless my face looked and how well the freshness of my makeup was preserved. I have been having a lot of issues with my skin over the past few years... especially my face, so I've tried so many products there would not be enough space here to tell you of all the epic fails, but it's getting better. Anyway, as far as this facial setting spray goes, If I could give this product 10 stars I would!" —Alyce Dalyce

Get it from Amazon for $8.47. Have dry skin? Check out the dewy finish version.

    6. Niacinamide dew drops, which is really just fancy talk for a multiuse highlighting serum that'll make you look like a better-hydrated version of yourself. You can use it with or without makeup!

dark skin tone model with a bare face and then with the drops looking very dewy and glowy thanks to the drops

I've recently given this stuff a glow and it really does make my skin look so much glowier. In normal times I'm into a hydrated look with highlighter in all the right places. But now that I've been working from home for nearly a year(!!!), I've done a lot of starting at myself on video calls and have noticed that I normally like a slightly glowier look for that. This helps without weighing me down!

Promising review: "Love this stuff! First off, the smell is amazing. Light watermelon scent that doesn’t linger. My face felt so nice and moisturized hours later and my skin had a subtle glow. Perfect for those no makeup days. Will definitely repurchase." —Tahneealexandri

Get it from Sephora for $34.

    7. A loose powder foundation that'll be way easier to apply than any liquid.

Note that though this has SPF 15, you need more SPF on the reg! According to dermatologists we've spoken to, using at least SPF 30 is preferable!

Promising review: "I have acne-prone skin and suffer from breakouts and large pores. I always thought a liquid foundation would give me the most coverage with the least product and that powder would be patchy... boy way I wrong! This is amazing and makes my pores disappear. It also is the first foundation that seems to have reduced inflammation and acne when I take it off rather than aggravate it. I also love that the shades are versatile so I can get away with the same shade throughout the year if I buff it in well." —Mnm1

Get it from bareMinerals for $32 (available in 30 shades).

    8. A sheer lip color that'll be super easy to control (and even layer!!!) but look like a just-blotted lipstick.

Black model wearing a berry hue lipstick

I purchased Zip when it was first released a few years ago. The color formula and payoff was super easy for an everyday look! (I look like a corpse if I wear no lip color.) The first round of packaging wasn't the best, but Glossier has since updated the packaging and reviewers are v pleased about the change!

Promising review: "I have used generationG for more than two years. I am just amazed at how easy it is to apply, it's very lightweight and does not let your lips dry. Would highly recommend this to my friends. I even got my mom on my side☺️" —Drea

    9. Or an SPF 15 tinted lip balm I can personally vouch for. It's easy to put on without a mirror, is super moisturizing, and has color that tints your lips for the day. If you're afraid of lipstick, this is a safe bet. I keep not one, but two(!) in my purse at all times.

light skin tone person's arm with five pink-y swatched lip colors

Even on days when I'm feeling sick or have to pull myself out of my bed because I *do* have to earn a living,

Get it from Amazon for $5.99+ (available in three shades).

    10. Hands-free eyeshadows shields I saw a MUA use on Theresa from The Real Housewives of New Jersey on an ep when she was giving her a seriously smokey eye that had ZERO fallout. So plz sign me up.

Promising review: "Shadow Shields are awesome and very simple to use. I use these on my clients all the time! The purpose of this product is to eliminate messy situations with makeup application like smudges, streaks, and shadow fallout. It has become my best friend when creating a perfect winged eyeliner. Ladies are who getting into beauty really would benefit from this a lot. I also like that this product saves me time with my clients and myself. I don't have to worry about being perfect with my eye shadow. TIP: Cut the shadow shields in half to increase longevity. If you doing a more drastic look use a whole shadow shield." —Blossom

three various shaped makeup sponges with a metal holder for cleaning and drying the sponges

    12. A tinted luminizer stick you can wear like foundation, use as a highlighter, or mask undereye circles. It's super creamy and stays put!

the highlighter palette with six pans of shades
    KimChi Chic

I have this palette in my arsenal and when I tried it for the first time I thought "Hmm, I'll use the pink on my cheekbones for just a slight little pink hue." Well dear readers, that pink delivered. It was VIBRANT. Not really the look I was going for, but I was super pleased with this color payoff (I wouldn't want anything less from a drag star's makeup line). A lot of times I stick to the champagne or whiter hue for highlighting my cheekbones and play around with the rest for my eyes. If you own this, you likely need no other highlighters at your disposal!

    22. A long-lasting eyebrow gel (that's waterproof!) you probably saw on Shark Tank and have been considering ever since. 'Tis time.

Promising review: "I love this stuff! I’m one of those people who over-plucked in the past and now can’t get the thick eyebrows I once hated back. It does take practice and a little trial and error to get the perfect brow. I usually keep a Q-tip handy and sometimes have to reshape after I apply. It is waterproof and lasts a few days. I am careful in the shower when washing my face to wash around the brows. Photos are me out for a jog without anything on my brows, second is after delivering my baby — yes. After my water broke, I took a shower and applied my Wunderbrow! Lasted through 12 hours of labor and three days in the hospital. =)" —Tiffany Haney

Get it from Amazon for $22+ (available in five colors).

Promising review: "I have always had trouble getting a brow routine down pat. Most products are too expensive or too time consuming. I make an effort to get my eight hours of beauty sleep every night and so I simply don't have time to have a three-step system for my brows. Since I started using Boy Brow, my brows look amazing every day and it takes a minute or less to get them that way. It is my holy grail brow product and I recommend to everyone." —BenshoffEm

Promising review: "I recently broke my makeup mirror that I had for two years because it is a big stationary mirror and I would always accidentally knock it over so I thought I’d get a smaller, compact mirror. This mirror fits just what I’m looking for. It is compact in size and has a led ring light that you can turn on/off with a button on the back. I’m surprised by how well made it is for the price and it’s honestly great to use while I pluck my eyebrows. The shine from bright LED light lets me clearly see which stray hair I should pluck. I’ve been using it every day and like this better than the old mirror that I broke." —J Ali

I read reviews and thought I will try these. These are amazing. I put it on yesterday. Smooth, easy application. Goes on just as you see color, not too light like others I've tried. It is still on today from my trip yesterday. We were at my doctor and I was so tired I slept with eye makeup on, not unusual, lol. I mean this stays and color for my brown eyes is great!!!" —girlyjohnnie

Get it from Amazon for $14+ (available in 11 colors). Cruelty-free.

Check out our full review for Sephora Rouge Gel Lip Liner here.

Get it from Sephora for $12 (available in 43 colors).

the lip sleeping mask in its tub surrounded by berries
    @laneige_us / Via

I use this stuff and LOVE it. It's also a great base for lip stain during winter months. Read our full review of Laneige lip sleeping mask here.

Promising review: "I have had chronically dry lips and have tried practically every lip balm on the market. Most only provided temporary or no relief. I have been using this product for about a month now and wish I had found this years ago!! I regret not taking a before picture but now my lips are smooth and not chapped. My lips do get slightly chapped some days, but now it is much more manageable with chapstick or lip balm. I am now able to wear lipstick, which I was not able to do before due to them always being chapped! I read some people did not like the smell but it a light berry smell in my opinion. eyeliners on a forearm with them cleaning removed with the pen

Promising review: "I've tried just using regular Chapstick or Vaseline before when running into melting makeup especially in public, but i have to say this is the product that works just right for me and beats any of those options and even better is that it's not sticky like my usual vaseline so i can re-apply right away.

I put it to the test and decided to try removing thick liquid liner, thin liquid liner and regular pencil liner with some coarse toilet paper. the results are pretty good even with such rough paper. The regular liner and pencil liner came off in one wipe, but it just took a bit more time and wipes to remove the large amount of liner." —Z
