Here Are 15 Times Celebrities Called Out Other Celebs For Being Problematic AF

"It's all the drama, I love it."

If there's one thing we can expect to stay constant in the celeb world, it's drama. Over the years, we've seen some pretty intense calling out between stars, so we thought we'd share some of our faves...

1. Lili Reinhart and Kim Kardashian

After the 2022 Met Gala, Lili took to her Instagram story to call out Kim's harmful comments about losing 16 pounds in just three weeks to fit into her dress. The actress expressed: "The ignorance is other-worldly and disgusting. Please stop supporting these stupid, harmful celebrities whose entire image revolves around their bodies."

Kim Kardashian attended the Met Gala wearing the very same iconic dress Marilyn Monroe wore when she sang "Happy Birthday" to John F. Kennedy in 1962. The choice caused a lot of controversy online, with people worried about Kim damaging the original dress. Speaking to Vogue, Kim shared the strict regime she endured to ensure she fitted into the dress. "I would wear a sauna suit twice a day, run on the treadmill, completely cut out all sugar and all carbs, and just eat the cleanest veggies and protein. I didn't starve myself, but I was so strict."

Lili's comments caused a media frenzy, but she doubled down on the point in an interview with Hunger, adding, "I don't want to sit back and have young women and men think that is normal. I was someone who at that point was, and still is, dealing with disordered eating, and it was just very triggering for me."

Kim responded to the backlash in an interview with the New York Times, stating, "To me it was like, 'OK, Christian Bale can do it for a movie role and that is acceptable...I didn't do anything unhealthy." Yikes.

2. Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber

The OG on-again-off-again couple have been involved in a lot of drama ever since they first started dating in 2010. Two years after his break-up with Selena, Justin Bieber posted photos on his Instagram of him and his then-girlfriend Sophia Richie. Fans fled to his comment section sending hate towards Sophia, and in response, Justin informed them he would turn his Instagram private if they did not stop.

Selena Gomez then decided to enter the feud herself, commenting "If you can't handle the hate, then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol – It should be special between you two only," adding "Don't be mad at your fans. They love you and supported you before anyone ever did." Biebs responded by commenting, "It's funny to see people that used me for attention and still try to point the finger this way. Sad. All love." Selena then followed up with: "Funny how the ones who cheated multiple times, are pointing the finger at the ones that were forgiving and supportive. No wonder fans are mad. Sad. All love."

Oh yeah, 2016 was a pretty wild time to be on the internet!

3. Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun

In 2018, Taylor signed a record deal with Republic Records. Her new contract allowed her to own the masters of her own recordings, which she was not entitled to in her previous contract with Big Machine.

Scooter Braun, probably best known for being the manager of Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and Demi Lovato, purchased Big Machine in 2019, meaning ownership of all masters (including Taylor's) belonged to him.

In a Tumblr post, Taylor responded to this news, writing: "I learned about Scooter Braun's purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world. All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I've received at his hands for years."

In August 2019, Taylor announced she would be re-recording and releasing her six previous albums to regain ownership. It was honestly a complete power move, and so far, Swifties have been treated to Taylor's versions of Fearless, Red, and Speak Now.

4. Dakota Johnson and Ellen DeGeneres

Dakota memorably appeared as a guest during a 2019 episode of Ellen DeGeneres' show. On the show, Ellen asked Dakota about her 30th birthday, saying, "How was the party? I wasn't invited." Dakota snapped back, "Actually, no. That's not the truth Ellen, you were." Dakota went on to add that she ensured Ellen was invited after being called out in a 2018 interview for failing to invite the TV host to her 29th party.

After admitting defeat, Ellen joked "Oh yeah I had that thing. [The party] was probably in Malibu, that’s too far for me to go to."

The awkwardness of Dakota catching Ellen in a lie made quite the satisfying watch for many viewers, who were thrilled that someone had finally called Ellen out. And it's not the first time the pair have had an awkward encounter. In a 2018 episode of Ellen, the host mocked Dakota for the length of her skirt. "Did you try that on before — do you want a blanket or anything?" Ellen joked, to an uncomfortable reception.

Appearing on Drew Barrymore's talk show in 2021, Drew referenced the incident with Ellen. "People have gotten in trouble for claiming not being invited to your parties," she said. "That was amazing, by the way," she added, to Dakota's laughter.

5. Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus

"Miley, what's good?" lives in my mind rent-free, and absolutely HAD to make this list.

When Nicki accepted her Best Hip-Hop Video award at the 2015 VMAs for "Anaconda", she chose to also respond to comments that Miley had made in an interview with The New York Times. Miley was asked to comment on a tweet by Nicki which read, "If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year"; this came after Nicki was snubbed for an MTV Video Music Award. Taylor Swift replied to the tweet at the time due to mass speculation that it was aimed at her. The singer said, "I've done nothing but love & support you... It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot." Nicki later clarified that it wasn't targeted at Taylor.

Enter Miley who made comments about the mini-feud in a pre-VMAS interview, saying she didn't see the fight as worthy because she believed Nicki attacked out of "anger". "It's not anger like, 'Guys, I'm frustrated about some things that are a bigger issue.' You made it about you," the Hannah Montana star said. "If you want to make it about race, there's a way you could do that. But don't make it just about yourself. Say: 'This is the reason why I think it's important to be nominated. There's girls everywhere with this body type'", she continued.  

In that same interview, Miley went on to suggest that Nicki is not a "nice person", which led to Nicki's iconic line at the 2015 VMAs: "Back to this bitch who had a lot to say about me the other day in the press. Miley what's good?". Miley was hosting the VMAs at the time, making the calling out especially dramatic! Oops.

6. Noah Schnapp and Doja Cat

In 2022, Noah Schnapp shared a screenshot in a now-deleted TikTok which showed an Instagram DM Doja Cat sent him. In the messages, Doja asked Noah to get co-star Joseph Quinn to hit her up. In response, Noah directed her to Joseph's page and told her to "slide into his DMs". Of course, the TikTok went viral, and Doja ended up responding to Noah during a TikTok live.

Doja began by saying, "To be fair, this is like, a kid. Noah is like, I don’t know how old he is, but he’s not even over — like there’s no way he’s over like 21." After that, though, she said: "The fact that Noah did that — like, went and posted a private conversation between me and him — is so unbelievably socially unaware and whack. That’s like borderline snake shit, that’s like weasel shit." Doja admitted later that "it's not that deep. It's just disappointing."

Noah remained silent throughout most of this, before addressing the drama in the comments of one of his TikToks, writing "Guys everything is all good I apologized, and I still follow her and love her music no hard feelings."

7. Leomie Anderson and Kendall Jenner

In 2018, controversy surrounding Kendall Jenner's comments in an interview with Love Magazine exploded online. In the interview, Kendall explained how she is "super selective" when it comes to modelling castings and fashion shows.

She was quoted as saying, "I was never one of those girls who would do like 30 shows a season, more power to 'em. But I had a million jobs, not only catwalks but everything else. The whole combination was very overwhelming and I started to freak out a little bit and needed to take a step back."

Model Leomie Anderson responded to these comments in a tweet that read, "I'm shocked but not surprised by this attitude. Not everyone gets to skip castings, get paid more than everyone else, and generally work less." The model went on to say that "it’s not about being 'selective', it’s about not having to put the work in but still receiving all the campaigns and editorials."

Kendall soon responded to the backlash with a tweet of her own, saying "I was misrepresented in a recent interview over the wknd & it's important to clarify the meaning. It was intended to be entirely complimentary but unfortunately, my words were twisted & taken out of context". She also added, "I want to be clear. The respect that I have for my peers is immeasurable!"

Does anyone else feel super awkward now?

8. Lady Gaga and Madonna

The feud between these two music icons began back in 2011 after Gaga released her single, "Born This Way". In an interview with Cynthia McFadden, Madonna expressed her opinion on the song, saying, "I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. And sometimes I think it's amusing and flattering and well done." She also added, "when I heard it on the radio… I said, 'that sounds very familiar'", before labelling the song as "reductive".

Lady Gaga responded, saying that the only similarity between the two was the chord progression, which she claimed is "the same one that's been in disco music for the last 50 years." Madonna clapped back by performing a mash-up of "Express Yourself" and "Born This Way" on her tour.

Later, in 2016, Gaga spoke again about the feud in an interview with Attitude magazine. "I've basically been hoping that I would become so good that one day I would piss off Madonna," she said, which angered a lot of fans who felt that Gaga was purposefully "ripping off" Madonna.

The feud does seem to be well and truly buried these days, with Gaga commenting on Madonna's recent TikTok with "we love you M". Let's hope this iconic friendship continues to thrive!

9. Avril Lavigne and Christina Aguilera

Okay, this one is definitely not as long-standing as some of the others on this list, but it was still, well, significant.

In an interview that took place during the 2011 Brit Awards' afterparty, Will Young mentioned that Boy George was a fan of the star, leading Avril to comment that "He was super nice, unlike Christina Aguilera, who was really mean to me when I said hi to her." She then added, "You know what, I said to my friends, 'I'm gonna go over to Boy George and hopefully he won't pull a Christina on me." Yeahhh... That's pretty awkward, TBH.

Christina Aguilera having beef with other stars isn't unheard of. I mean, come on  — we all remember her feud with P!nk right?

10. Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande

The famous couple were together for four months before calling it quits in 2018. After a few weeks of dating, they ended up getting engaged and even got dedicated tattoos for each other (Pete got a bunny mask to reference Ariana's Dangerous Woman album, and Ariana tatted the number "8418" in memory of Pete's dad, a firefighter who died during 9/11).

Unfortunately, the sudden and unexpected death of Mac Miller occurred in  September 2018. Ariana announced that she was taking some time to heal and mourn her ex, and soon after, in October, she split from her fiancé, Pete.

Although the split appeared cordial at the time, the pair did later take a couple of jabs at each other in the media. In 2019, Ariana appeared on the front cover of Vogue and discussed her previous relationship with Pete. The singer admitted that the SNL star "was an amazing distraction. It was frivolous and fun and insane and highly unrealistic, and I loved him, and I didn't know him."

Of course, Pete didn't take the admission of him being treated as a "distraction" too well. On his Netflix stand-up special Pete Davidson: Alive From New York, he responded with, "can you imagine if I did that? My career would be over tomorrow if I spray painted myself brown and hopped on the cover of Vogue magazine and just started shitting on my ex."

Yeah... Way too messy for me. Thank U, Next...

11. Piers Morgan and Ariana Grande (again)

In November 2018, Piers Morgan controversially Tweeted about Little Mix, shaming them for posing nude during a professional photoshoot. The TV host tweeted: "I'd just prefer they use their talent to sell records rather than their nudity. As your own daughter does", when Joan Grande (Ariana's mum) came to the defence of Little Mix. 

Ariana wasted no time in responding "I use my talent AND my sexuality all the time because I choose to.” She then added that “women can be sexual AND talented. Naked and dignified. It’s OUR choice. & we will keep fighting til people understand. I say this w all due respect but thank u, next." The singer then continued to tweet at Piers, saying "I look forward to the day you realize there are other ways to go about making yourself relevant than to criticize young, beautiful, successful women. I think that’ll be a beautiful thing for you and your career, or what’s left of it."

A few months after the spat, Ariana and Piers revealed they had a face-to-face conversation about the subject, which, of course, stirred up a lot of mixed feelings from fans. Responding to fans' concerns, Ariana tweeted "I think some progress was made! Turns out face-to-face discussions are a bit kinder and gentler, even if you do indeed disagree."

Personally, I'd love to see more Twitter takedowns courtesy of Miss Grande.

12. James Corden and Keith McNally

Late last year, the owner of New York restaurant Balthazar, Keith McNally, called out James Corden for being the "most abusive customer to my Balthazar servers since the restaurant opened 25 years ago." The restauranteur labelled him a "tiny cretin of a man." He then posted on Instagram to say that "I strongly believe in second chances. So if James Corden lets me host his Late Late Show for 9 months, I’ll immediately rescind his ban from Balthazar. No, of course not."

James responded in an interview with the New York Times saying that "I haven’t done anything wrong, on any level," before adding "I just think it’s beneath all of us. It’s beneath you. It’s certainly beneath your publication."

Of course, the drama didn't end there. There was a lot of back and forth between the pair — Keith stated that his servers have no reason to lie about James being abusive towards them, and James decided to respond on his own show with a five-minute monologue. In the clip, James mentioned that his behaviour was due to his wife's food allergy. "My wife explained that she has a serious food allergy, so when everybody’s meals came, my wife was given the food that she was allergic to but she hadn’t taken a bite of it or anything, so no worries, we sent it back, all was good." According to James, the meal was improperly fixed three times, causing him to make a sarcastic comment about cooking it himself. 

Keith wasn't buying James' speech and ended the long-standing argument with another post on his Instagram that read: "In the scheme of things my opinion means nothing, but after Friday's interview and a second look at his fraudulent confessional, I've given up on James Corden. For Good."

Phew. Yup, it took a lot of mental space to try and keep up with this feud, NGL.

13. Chrissy Teigen and Courtney Stodden

This was probably one of the most dramatic falls from Twitter grace that we've seen in the celeb world. 

In an Instagram video posted in 2021, Courtney spoke about Chrissy: "I experienced so much harassment and bullying from her when I was just 16 years old. At a time when I needed help. I was being abused.” Courtney married 50-year-old acting coach, Doug Hutchison, at the age of 16. After the split, it was revealed that it was an abusive relationship, with Courtney being just a child at the time. However, many took the marriage as an excuse to mock Courtney, including Chrissy Teigen.

Courtney revealed tweets that Chrissy had sent to her, including one which read, "my Friday fantasy: you. dirt nap. mmm baby." In another tweet, Chrissy simply wrote "I hate you." Courtney also discussed in an interview with the Daily Beast how volatile Chrissy could be towards them over direct messages.

In a long Twitter thread, Chrissy did respond admitting that she was "sad and mortified" with how she used to be. She then continued to say, "I was an insecure, attention-seeking troll. I am ashamed and completely embarrassed at my behaviour but that is nothing compared to how I made Courtney feel."

Ever since this feud, Chrissy has remained pretty silent on socials, and her Twitter popularity soon crumbled.

14. Chloë Grace Moretz and Kim Kardashian (again)

In 2016, Kim Kardashian posted an NSFW nude photo on her social media. Bette Midler and Piers Morgan criticised Kim, shortly followed by actor Chloë Grace Moretz. She tweeted, "I truly hope you realize how important setting goals are for young women, teaching them we have so much more to offer than just our bodies."

Chloë later clarified her point by writing, "There's a huge difference in respecting the platform that you're given as a celebrity and 'slut shaming' something I never have done and would never do."

Of course, this is Kim Kardashian, and she responded to Chloë with a short but simple tweet: "Let's all welcome @ChloeGMoretz to Twitter, since no one knows who she is. your nylon cover is cute boo." The reference to Nylon pointed to Chloë's scantily-clad appearance in their December/January issue.

Chloë made no further comment after this, but I think this is certainly a Twitter feud no one will forget any time soon! 

15. And finally... Drake and Pusha T

The history of this feud between these two artists goes all the way back to 2011, when Pusha T called out Drake for using ghostwriters. A year later, Lil' Wayne (Drake's mentor), tweeted "F*ck Pusha T and anyone that love em". Drake defended his mentor in his 2013 song "Tuscan Leather" with the lyrics: "I'm just as famous as my mentor/ But that's still the boss, don't get sent for." 

After a few years of lyrical back-and-forth, Drake released "Duppy Freestyle" on the same day that Pusha dropped his new album. Drake made a comment in the song about invoicing Kanye West (Pusha T is the head of West's music label) for giving Pusha T clout.

Pusha responded by tweeting: "Send the invoice for the extra 20...". Without hesitating, Drake sent an invoice back for $100,000 for "promotional assistance and career reviving."

Probably one of the most memorable moments of this feud was when Pusha T accused Drake of being a "deadbeat dad" to his son, Adonis. At the time of the diss, Drake had yet to admit any connection to his son, but Pusha's lyrics "Adonis is your son / and he deserves more than an Adidas press run, that’s real" led to Drake defending his decision. In "Emotionless", Drake clapped back, "I wasn't hiding my kid from the world, I was hiding the world from my kid." 

In other words, this feud has got to be up there with the most personal of them all.
