A man killed a stray dog by swinging an axe straight in the dog’s head. The incident happened very close to the center of Skopje, the capital of Macedonia.
At around 6pm CEST time in the afternoon, people sitting at a café close to the center of Skopje witnessed the bloody scene after a middle aged man hit a homeless dog with an axe he took from his own house next door to the café. The dog died 10 minutes later. Witnesses report that at the time of the attack the dog was sleeping.
The man later claimed the reason behind this horrible act of violence is that the dog attacked him one month ago. But, neighbors swear the stray was peaceful and much loved and taken care of by locals and visitors to the café. His name was Idriz.
A protest erupted last night following the death of Idriz the stray dog. People stood for hours infront of the door of the man who killed the dog in cold blood demanding he is placed in police custody and charged for the crime immediately.
“I am afraid for the safety of my children”- said a woman living near the location where this event took place
The man gave himself up and spent last night held in the police station, the police station took statements and took the weapon he used to kill the dog.
“All the evidence about the cruel murder of the dog with an axe have been collected. The identity of the perpetrator is confirmed, the investigation is finished and there will be a criminal charge made”- wrote on his official facebook profile mr. Zhernovski, mayor of Center municipality.
This morning the man was seen back at his home which angered citizen of Skopje and lead to another protest where animal rights activists demanded the man be immediately sanctioned with maximum punishment.
“Murder. Murder. Monster. Monster.” – chanted the angry crowd gathered outside his house today
At the end of the protest, activists announced that they will keep protesting every day infront of his house until there are criminal charges and he is taken off the streets. As crowds left a single candle lit in memory of the dead stray Idriz was left at the doorstep of his murder.
Protests will continue on today.
