37 Incredibly Useful Products To Help Repair Things Around Your House

Little fixes for the problems that are just so freakin' irritating.

    1. A versatile Katzco Furniture Repair Kit for anyone lookin' to freshen up their wooden doors, furniture, or fixtures without having to replace them. It comes with six wood markers and six wax sticks all designed to match whatever wood you need fixed.

A before and after customer review photo of their door covered with scratches then not covered
A customer review before and after photo showing their cabinets with and without wear

Promising review: "Despite our consistent efforts, it took almost a year to teach our new dog to not jump up on the back door. And as you can see in the first picture, he managed to do a lot of scratching. That's why I bought this marker kit, to repair those scratches. I used 'oak,' a lighter color, on the scratches. I did have to go over them again to completely cover them. That's what you see in the second picture, and it took me about 10 minutes total. I bought the kit with the wax crayons as I hoped to fill in the scratches too, I read in another review that it's possible but takes a lot of work. Unless I'm looking for the defects, I no longer notice the scratches (and mind you, these are at eye level) so this did the job I wanted." —P. Ratliff

    2. A roll of very handy window screen repair tape, a temporary (or not so temporary) way to repair small cuts or tears in your screen door without having to replace the whole thing.

A customer review photo of them holding up a piece of the mesh repair tape

Promising review: "This RHO screen repair tape is fabulous and simple to use! Just cut to size, pull off the clear protective film, and press onto the tear or hole in your screen. That's it! There are 15 feet on a roll and it couldn't be easier. I've patched my screened porch now in five to six spots and while the tape is visible, it prevents bugs from crawling through, which was my goal. If you don't have the time, money, or inclination to completely replace a screen, this is the perfect solution...and the fastest! Will buy again in a heartbeat if I run out of this roll." —sallywally

A customer review photo of a bottle of Oh Yuk Jetted Tub Cleaner and text talking about how despite cleaning their tub after every use it was still disgusting

Promising review: "I was in a hopeless situation. A jetted tub that was so neglected when I moved into my apartment. I thought it would have to be replaced. We had tried chlorine bleach, hydrogen peroxide, and pool cleaner — nothing seemed to touch this mess. Then we found Oh Yuk! on the internet as a recommendation. It was either this or replace the tub. After two applications, as directed, the tub was cleaned. The amount of slime removed was unreal, I cannot imagine why this is not standard maintenance protocol on all jetted tubs. I will continue to use this product, it's amazingly effective and I think it will keep this tub operational for years to come." —CeeJay

Promising review: "OMG!! I'm just speechless. Our tub drain was a bit slow so I decided to try this thing without much expectation. Stuck the plastic all the way down, move the thing a little, and pulled it out. I was in so much shock at how much hair came out. It's probably all the hair that went down the drain over the past seven years...literally you could make a wig out of it! Surprised I am not bald! So worth the money!!! Definitely recommend it to everyone." —Kelly

We applied the product twice and put in a whole lot of elbow grease, but what a difference! It’s a messy process, but well worth the time and energy." —MM

    6. An under-door draft stopper you can easily slide in or even place in windows to help seal any gaps that may allow noise (and heat) to travel through.

Promising review: "I wanted something that would keep the noise out, to be honest. I live in a small NYC apartment with roommates, and have French doors. I wanted something to fit underneath that would serve specifically to reduce noise, but also not be a pain when I opened and closed the doors. It works wonderfully! It reduces the noise level from the outside, and vice versa. The talking and TV in the living room are muted, and I have been told my phone conversations are quieter! So perfect for what I needed!" —Meagan

Promising review: "Does exactly what it says. Rather than getting spackel, waiting for it to dry, sanding it down, and tweaking as needed — this cuts the time/effort down! Just rub over the place in need of patching and wipe off the excess. The hardest part is not accidentally getting the product on parts of the wall that don’t need it, but that’s easy to clean up, so it’s not a problem. I used this to patch holes in the wall from a former Wi-Fi router and modem, other than the color difference from the patch to the paint, you’d never know it was patched. Great price, easy to use." —Amanda

A series of photos showing the progression of using the tool to evenly hang frames

Leveling is where I normally falter. With the Hang-O-Matic it becomes an exact science! It's so simple to use! I've hung over 10 items on our walls this past weekend and it was a breeze with this tool. 12. A handy grout pen – with a little elbow grease, it can get your stained grout lines on your tiled floors and walls looking like new again. Its formula is mold-resistant and one pen can cover up to 60 meters of grout area.

A customer review photo showing the progress on their grout
A customer review photo showing the progress on their grout

Just a note, this does take some elbow grease and time to actually do (one of my colleagues did it to her bathroom and it took her a few hours) but in comparison to actually regrouting your whole floor — this is a total time-saver.

Promising review: "I have 12-inch white tile in my whole house that is 20 years old. Even though I have kept it looking nice, the grout still was getting dark. I cleaned the grout and let it dry good 'til the next day then used the grout pen. It looks like it is brand-new. One thing that I found out was that if the tip of the pen starts to look worn you can just pull it out and turn it over — it is the same tip on both ends. It will take some time to do the whole house but it looks so great that I will just do a section at a time 'til I finish. One other thing that I did was run my finger down the grout line after I apply the grout pen then wipe down the tile line with a paper towel so no other cleanup was necessary." —Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $8.99+ (available in two sizes).

    13. Or forget painting your grout and use an acid-free grout cleaner that goes in deep to get even the dirtiest, grossest crevices and leave you with brand new **looking** grout.

A customer review photo showing the progress on her grout
A bottle of the grout cleaner

Promising review: "Great product from what I can see. As described it does not work for soap stains, but for plain dirty grout, it makes the job as easy as possible. My bathroom grout (white tile/grout) was nasty from the previous owners of the house. About an hour on the floor with this product and the grout looks as good as it ever. Spray it on, give it a minute to soak in, and scrub. You can see the dirt come up immediately. Wipe up with water and done. I'll probably make another pass to get a few spots that I didn't allow to soak in properly, but as you can see it does work well." —M. Smith

A series of customer review photos of the progress of their tile shower floors before and then after one, two, and three applications
A customer review photo of the bottle of the cleaner with the text,

Promising review: "This WET AND FORGET Shower cleaner is really amazing. I was completely skeptical that any cleaner would work without scrubbing but decided it was worth a try. I first tried it on my fiberglass shower stall and was surprised at how well it works. It is just so easy to spray on after a shower and as the name says, forget. Before my next shower, I just let the water run for a while and use the handheld sprayer to complete the rinsing process so I am not standing in the cleaner. I then tried it on my tile shower stall and it works equally well. I just wish that I could find cleaners for other chores that are so easy to use and that do such a good job." —Bichon Mom

If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions, you may be in luck. Hope's Perfect Sink provides relief to those afflicted with sink stain shame. I spent about 10 minutes cleaning and polishing (note that it does take some elbow grease) and I now have a sink that I can be proud of. As a matter of fact, I find excuses to walk past my sink several times a day just to admire the shine. Even if my wife and kids roll their eyes whenever I talk about my sink polishing adventures, I think they secretly love it too. Promising review: "What they say is sooooooo true. I hate hate hate streaky windows. These towels leave NO streaks. Windows looked like there was no glass in them. Cleaned my black stove. Again no streaks. My stainless steel sparkles. I took one in the shower with me and wiped down the walls and tub. Oh, and I have a beige suede-like couch that my hubby leaves blackness on. Rubbed a damp towel on it and GONE. Even the furniture shampoo hadn't worked. These deserve 100 stars." —Bernie Wilbanks

To use, apply to the stain, gently agitate with your fingers, and blot with an absorbent cloth. This is non-toxic and should be non-irritating on the skin!

Promising review: "I'm really disappointed I lived without this product for so long. I'm a clean freak and I'm always concocting ways to get stains out of things when I'm not steaming tile for fun. However, I have an overpriced wool carpet that my dogs have destroyed with accidents, bully sticks, and just general recklessness. Moreover, my kids have taken to tossing all sorts of heavily colored foods on the floor for the pups. I gave up on this rug ever been clean again. I've had it professionally cleaned and tried a dozen things myself... and no difference. So I thought I'd try this assuming that it wouldn't work on the stain-determined rug but that'd I use it on my less tenacious ones. I sprayed it on, reading the instructions saying that I didn't need to scrub it, etc. And minutes later, freaking magic. My very pale blue and white rug is virginal. I admit that I did rub it in a little on the harsher stains/discoloration but there were plenty of areas that didn't require any follow-up rubbing. I'm sincerely blown away and just ordered a second bottle. The price of this product is minimal if you're looking to make your rug/carpet like new again so I would absolutely recommend trying it. I don't think I've ever been this impressed with anything I've ever purchased. I feel cheated for not knowing about this sooner." —bubbleslovesoap

    23. A simple to install TV wall mount that doesn't require any studs for installations — well besides you of course.

A person nailing in a bracket into the wall
A person hanging a TV on the wall
    Amazon

Promising review: "This product is extremely easy to install yourself on almost any type of wall because it distributes the weight so well. It works on drywall or plaster. I double checked the position by sliding the provided level across the wall and started by putting one nail in the center and then carefully at one end using the level. Once I was sure it was level, I carefully put in a half dozen more. You don’t need to use all of the nails provided! After I hung the TV I realized that one side seemed a little higher than the other and I took the TV off and realized I just needed to make sure the screws on the back of the TV were positioned properly." —Venona

Get it from Amazon for $22.63+ (available for TVs 18"-55").

    24. A canister of chalked paint  to give your old and tattered hand-me-down furniture a fun and unique update — it'll provide all your pieces a soft matte, cozy look.

A person applying the chalked paint to a side table
A customer review photo of before and after applying the chalked paint to a dresser

Promising review: "I'm slowly doing a DIY remodel on the upstairs of my house. I'm basically taking everything we own and giving it an upgrade. I got this paint for many things — one of those being my dining room table. I do A LOT of crafting. I redid my kitchen myself, including my cabinets, and went from oak to glazed antique. So I'm familiar with paints, sealants, and stains. I use paint daily. And I use chalk paint the most. And this is my favorite. The quality is great and the coverage is better than any other out there. I'm not going to bash any other name brands in a review but I am so happy I found a chalk paint that I don't have to slather on and waste and that doesn't give me that thick, goopy look. I got linen white for my table legs and I got charcoal for my tabletop and seat tops. I also used the charcoal on a lot of the accent pieces in my dining room." —Kimber

Get it from Amazon for $10.88+ (available in 14 colors).

Promising review: "This product is worth every penny and goes a very long way. We had tired, oak floors that haven’t been refinished in over 50 years. They were dried out and washed out. This product took away decades in an hour with a few rags and a lot of elbow grease. One word of caution, floors are very slippery for a few days after. Be very careful walking around. Bonus, it smells amazing. It has a natural orange peel smell that is fresh and clean and not at all harsh or chemical. Highly, highly recommend." —GMD

Promising review: "I expected to be happy, but I'm thrilled! Each mat is pliable and fits the entire width of my standard oven. When the mat is against the back wall, it extends up to but not over the front lip of the floor. On first use, pizza cheese and sauce dripped onto the front edge of the mat and onto that uncovered lip. The baked-on cheese and sauce slid right off the mat! Effortlessly! After I cleaned up the lip, I layered a second mat to cover the lip. These mats are so great that I almost want food to drip on them so I can show off how wonderful they are." —Artset Outset

I grew up in a house with stainless steel appliances and I have so many memories of my mom getting so mad that nothing cleaned the stainless steel. Now I live in an apartment with stainless-steel appliances and found myself getting mad too! I told her when I ordered this and she literally said 'Good luck. Nothing works.' Well, this does! I just texted her my before and after of my oven as proof. If I recommended this to my mom, I'd recommend it to you too!" —Allison M.

Life-changing product!" —AmazSD

    31. And while you're at it, a pack of Affresh washing machine tablets to help kill that odd smell and kinda gross buildup that can happen inside your appliance.

A customer review photo of their washing machine
A customer review phot of the pack

Promising review: "The instructions are really simple, toss one tablet in to clean your washer once a month. I appreciate the ease of how it freshens my washing machine. I make sure that when I use it, I also clean out the bottom trap that becomes stinky, and I wipe the rubber seal rings with bleach to make sure all of the mold that could build-up doesn’t get much of a chance to start. Every time I use this, someone comes to tell me there’s a problem with the machine because the Affresh tablet, which is pretty chunky and heavy is going ‘clunk, clunk, clunk’ in the washer and they think something is wrong. But there is never any problem and it always does a good job of refreshing my machine. This is a product I’ve trusted for a while since it does a good job, and I appreciate the way my washer is cleaned after its use. One of my favorites that I added to my Subscribe and Save plan because of that!" —Marina

Did it myself — a section at a time, but did a large home in two days and the results were amazing. I consider myself a 'clean' person, vacuuming and mopping several times a week. The dirt these brushes got up from my floors was amazing (and disgusting). Recommended them to my friends that night at dinner!" —Mary

    33. A bottle of Star Brite Mold and Mildew Stain Remover that might actually be magic! It requires NO scrubbing!! You just spray the area you want clean, wait until the stain is gone, and then rinse. That's all folks!

Promising review: "I don't often write a review of a product. But this was so impressive, I thought I should let others know. We have a set of vinyl outdoor chairs that were constantly covered with mildew. When we were feeling ambitious, we'd take the time to power wash the chairs, which worked pretty well but was a lot of work. The problem was that a couple of days later, the mildew was back almost as bad a before. With this mildew stain remover, we sprayed the chairs, let them sit a few minutes, and hosed off with a regular garden hose. Easy. And they were cleaner than they ever got using the power washer. When we put the chairs away two months later, they were still clean." —Christine A. Simonson

Promising review: "I was a little doubtful about these being able to stand up straight but was pleasantly surprised. Get it from Amazon for $10.23+ (available in two colors).

    35. A commercial strength hard water stain remover — that shower door that used to be clear and is now frosted with grossness will be back in no time.

Promising review: "This stuff is a miracle. My husband and I just bought a house and there is very hard water. It looked like the previous owners never tried to get the hard water off the shower doors and walls. I tried vinegar and Dawn first — it didn't even scratch the surface. I tried Scrubbing Bubbles next and it was the same. I was feeling so defeated. I did some research and bought Bar Keepers Friend. With a grade 0000 steel wool piece, it took me about two hours to clean a quarter of the window in my shower. My arm also felt like it was going to fall off. I was determined, so I researched more. Then, I found this stuff. I was so anxious that I cracked it open minutes after receiving it in the mail. I applied it to my grade 0000 steel wool and started scrubbing away. BINGO! It took me about 15 minutes to clean the same size section as I did with the Bar Keepers Friend. I'm not gonna lie, this stuff needs some elbow grease but it definitely works. It took off what seems like years of hard water stains. It does have a smell to it but it's not super harsh and totally able to withstand. This is going on my 'always available in my house' list! I love this stuff!" —Tyrene A. Gapol

The bottle of Mold & Mildew Stain Cleaner

Promising review: "Follow the directions and it will work. On my first attempt I did not make a bead but spread it out thinly (trying to use as little as possible) and it didn’t work. The next time I made a bead and while it took two applications, it finally worked. It was amazing! I have tried for years to get rid of the mold in the caulking. I even replaced the caulking twice, but the mold would come back within a couple of weeks. For the first time in 10 years, the caulking around the top is clean, white, and free from any sign of mold. I tried it on a couple of other troublesome spots in the bathroom and kitchen, with the same results. Finally, a product that works on stubborn mold." —CLAUDE D'ESTREE
