Here's Everything You Need To Travel Light

I know someone who recently went on a week-long trip with just a Jansport backpack — it held everything they needed including their laptop.

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

    1. A multipurpose travel wallet that has plenty of space for all the documents you need and a pen, because good luck finding one of those when you need to fill out all those customs documents!

Promising review: "This is my new go-to travel wallet! It has slots for everything you need. The color is great and it's not bulky. If it had more than three credit card slots I would use it as my everyday wallet because that's how much I love it. My pen kept falling out so I would suggest using a pen that has a clip in it. The inside flap came in handy for my plane boarding passes." —Tee

Get it from Amazon for $12.99+ (available in 36 colors).

    2. A set of packing cubes capable of sectioning off and holding so much stuff, so that your suitcase is never an absolute mess.

This set of water-resistant bags is perfect for the traveler who always overpacks. By using them, they'll be able to separate, organize, and store all their things within their regular suitcase, preventing their clothes from being crushed during the journey. It also comes with a laundry bag so they can separate their dirty clothes from their clean clothes.

Promising review: "I travel frequently and travel light. My luggage is usually limited to a backpack that slides under the airline seat. For a two week European cruise I added a carry-on rolling suitcase. I've used these packing cubes twice so far and I am hooked. One cube holds everything (including clothing) I take on a three-night trip. The cube slides into my pack, saving massive amounts of room, and everything is easy to find during travel and at the hotel. Taking out one cube and unzipping is much better than digging through a pack! I will never leave home without these!" —Gura

Get the set on Amazon for $24.99 (available in eight colors).

    3. An ultra light-weight puffer jacket you can easily roll up and stuff into your carry on.

Promising review: "This puffer jacket is a real problem solver during colder months where suitcase real estate just won’t accommodate a warm jacket. It’s also very light. The entire garment stuffs into an impossibly small ripstop nylon bag which is included. You’ll find it tied to the interior. With a little practice, you can leave the bag tied to the garment and repack quickly. I was very comfortable in moderately cold weather meaning 40-50-ish degrees, threatening rain. For the price, you'll be able to sport your favorite colors in style." —Amazon Shopper

Get it from Amazon for $39 (available in sizes XS-XXL and in eight colors).

    4. A packing list pad that'll make sure you're packing everything you need and not 876 ballgowns, because apparently when you're on vacation you become the type of person who goes to galas?

Promising review: "I hate packing — I mean, I really hate packing! I am always afraid I am going to forget something and the entire ordeal is a stressful one for me. Since I have to travel a lot, this is a game-changer for me. No more guessing if I forgot my underwear — everything I need is on this list. I am thinking of just keeping one bag totally packed, filled with the items on the list, and just add my suit in when I am ready to travel. :)" —Dr. Oceanfront

Get it from Amazon for $7.

    5. A digital luggage scale so you can measure your big ol' bag before you check it in and avoid that bajillion dollar overweight luggage fee.

Promising review: "This luggage scale is so convenient, lightweight, and easy to use. I no longer worry about my bag being overweight and having to rearrange my packing in the middle of the airport. The times I've used this, I make sure my bag is two pounds under the weight limit and have never had an issue!" —Sadie

Get it from Amazon for $9.98.

    6. A washable and inflatable headrest you can roll up and store away — no more pillow necklaces for you, only diamond ones from now on.

Promising review: "Just took this on a 14-hour flight to Australia. As someone who has great trouble sleeping upright, this definitely made the journey much more pleasant. I also used it on a bunch of short three- to four-hour flights, and it worked great as a chin rest or side pillow while I watched TV and read. It inflates and deflates MUCH quicker than the other travel pillows I have. I also didn't have the problem of falling forward when dozing off." —David

Get it from Amazon for $24.95 (available in three colors).

    7. A genius little Pocket Palette — it includes mascara, BB cream, and blush/lip tint that'll have you looking fly without having to carry your entire makeup bag around.

Promising review: "I travel often for work, and it’s so much easier to pack a few Pocket Palettes than tote my regular makeup — they’re super carry-on bag/airport-friendly! I love my Lancôme but I’d much rather not tote around heavy glass bottles, so I keep a palette at the ready for the gym, in my purse, at my desk at work, etc. — they’re that convenient. For the makeup itself, the quality of the BB cream is great. It’s light, feels and looks natural, you can get at least two full uses out of the quantity. The lip/cheek color amount is also generous. I personally go for a darker lip generally, but this is good for blush and will last me a while. I love how handy the mascara applicator is, so fun-sized. For someone on the go, who isn't soooo makeup savvy that I'm contouring all the time, this product is really practical!" —Maureen

Get a pack of three from Amazon for $11.99 (available in four shades). Find more TSA-friendly travel products.

    8. A collapsible water bottle you can take through security empty, fill up at a water fountain, and have enough water to stay hydrated throughout your flight.,

Promising review: "We purchased two of these for our trip abroad and I have only one thing to say about it — it was the best purchase we made for the trip. They flattened down and fit into our backpack just fine. The minute we made it through the TSA checkpoint, we filled it up. It holds quite a bit of liquid, so we didn't have to fill up every five minutes during the trip like with some smaller-capacity bottles." —Sheryl

Get it from Amazon for $24.95 (available in eight colors).

    9. A pack of travel-friendly laundry detergent that'll make traveling with fewer clothes way easier — now you can just wash what you bring.

Promising review: "I pack really light and wash clothes in the hotel sink/bath to re-wear. These are great for that, even on my sweaty/stinky/sunscreen-y bathing suit cover-up that needs to be washed every day during tropical travel." —iheartmmp

Get an eight-pack from Amazon $8.99.

    10. A water-resistant backpack designed with a USB charging port, more than a dozen pockets in multiple sizes, and an anti-theft lock to help keep your stuff safe.

Promising review: "Great backpack for travel. I can comfortably fit my 15" laptop, water bottle, a small pair of flat shoes, a course reader, and a bunch of other little things (agenda, iPad, journal, pens, pencils, iPhone.) Really an awesome backpack that looks professional, clean, and holds a LOT. I use it for my frequent travel (airplane) and it fits perfectly under the seat." —Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $23.99+ (available in eight colors and two colors).

    11. A versatile ruched crew-neck T-shirt dress that'll look amazing dressed up with heels or down with your favorite sneakers — it's basically a million outfits in one.

Promising review: "Ok, EVERYONE NEEDS THIS DRESS. It’s so flattering, but more importantly SO comfortable. It reminds me of the Leith dress from Nordstrom but it's half the price and way better quality, in my opinion. I’m wearing a medium and I have a little room to move around so it’s not skin tight." —Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $22.99 (available in sizes S-XL and in 16 colors).

    12. A reversible vegan-leather travel tote that'll hold everything you might need at a moment's notice — or in the event your luggage doesn't make it.,

Promising review: "I bought this bag for a trip I recently took and am extremely pleased with it. The versatility of being reversible (dark to light) was a plus, getting two for the price of one. It is soft and supple and holds a ton of stuff! My 13' laptop/tablet fit perfectly and there was still room for a lot of other travel stuff. The magnet that holds the flaps together was strong, too. I would definitely purchase this product again and will use it on future trips!" —D. Webb

Get it from Amazon for $24.99+ (available in 11 colors).

    13. And a multi-pocketed handbag organizer to help you keep your purse from turning into a black pit of despair.,

Promising review: "I have always purchased handbags with lots of pockets and sections because I hate having to dig around trying to find something in the gaping hole of purses with no sections. But I have passed up so many cute bags because of this and I was frustrated with having to do so. I purchased this medium size organizer and I couldn't be happier!! It is very well made and it has so many great pockets to organize everything I need. THE BEST PART is, I can easily lift it out of one purse and put it into another one and I always know where everything can be found. I wish I had gotten one of these years ago. When I first ordered this organizer I didn't realize it had two zipper compartments on each side and I was tickled to discover even MORE storage!!! With all the fun colors and patterns it was hard to select one, but I've always been partial to polka dots. I love it and can't imagine anyone not being has pleased with this as I am!" —Ronna

Get it from Amazon for $7.99+ (available in sizes S-L and in 26 colors).

    14. An adorable mini travel hair straightener, so that you'll always look flawless, even after a 20-hour flight.

Basically, you'll be Beyoncé. Minus the private jet.

Promising review: "My wife needed a hair straightener solution for a trip to New York in which she was only packing one carry-on and her purse. We found this for her and ordered it. Very good price plus Prime shipping! She received it and promptly she tried it — she was happy with it! I am amazed at how tiny it is, which was the intention, but the amazement was that it works well regardless of its tiny size. I saw her use it every day of the five days we were in NYC, and it didn't seem to slow down her normal getting ready routine at all, I'd say it's a little champion. I asked her a couple of different times if she likes it and she said that it's great. So, for us, it worked well and took very little space, which was at a premium for this trip." —James Stapp

Get it on Amazon for $15.99+ (available in two colors).

    15. Or Drybar's The Jet-Setter Bundle that comes with all the travel essentials you need — their Baby Buttercup Travel Blow-dryer, Tiny Tress Press Detailing Iron, Lil' Lemon Drop Travel Detangling Brush, the Morning After Shower Cap, and travel-size versions of their Detox Dry Shampoo, Dry Conditioner, Triple Sec 3-in-1 Blanc, and Hot Toddy.

    16. A waterproof travel organizer that'll help you keep all your cords, chargers, batteries, flash drives, and cables completely organized.

Promising review: "Great for holding all my cords. Everything stays organized and it's easy to slide into my briefcase. Glad I have it!" —Rochelle

Get it from Amazon for $11.69 (available in four colors).

    17. A Bluetooth foldable keyboard to help turn any of your smart devices into a makeshift laptop — meaning you don't actually have to bring yours.

Promising review: "To my surprise, this Bluetooth keyboard is super lightweight! It is so convenient to carry it with you all the time. It isn't like some heavy iPad keyboards that make your iPad as heavy as a laptop. It is a perfect fit for my iPad. So far it's working great as it's supposed to. The touchpad is multitouch and supports many gestures. I've been using this keyboard for a few days now and the battery is still going okay." —Ben W.

Get it from Amazon for $29.99.

    18. A machine-washable neck pillow that's soft and flexible to not only fit you perfectly but fit into any tiny space you have available.

Promising review: "I used it for an 18-hour flight and it worked great. That being said, you have to find the sweet spot when wrapping it around your neck. If you just slap it on, it won’t be in the proper position and won’t give you the support you need. First get the upper edge area aligned comfortably with your jaw bone (this area is where your chin will be resting while asleep) then while holding in place with one hand, relax your neck/head like your sleeping- at this point wrap the fleece around and lock into place. Find the right tightness for your comfort — super snug didn’t work for me, so mine was more relaxed. I would alternate between sides depending on the angle I wanted my head at. I wore it when awake as a scarf because it was chilly on the plane. My friend used it as neck support in a place we were staying by just placing it on the bed. I used it for a phone prop to watch videos and a neck support to read my book while laying down. It has become a surprisingly universal tool for me and I have no regrets about purchasing it." —B. Everson

Get it from Amazon for $25+ (available in seven colors and in adult and children sizes).

    19. A dual-voltage travel steam iron that is so small, it'll fit anywhere — plus its a great way to freshen up your clothes that, maybe, you're wearing more than once between washes.

Just because you're backpacking through Europe doesn't mean you have to look like it.

Promising review: "Perfect for travel! We bought it since we travel a lot and it fits well in luggage and is so light. Weight is important with airlines charging for luggage. Works well too." —Amazon Customer

Get it on Amazon for $19.99.

    20. A super-fast drying microfiber travel towel for anyone hitting the open road sans fancy hotels.

Promising review: "Definitely the softest and lightest towel I have ever owned. I bought it for backpacking and also travel overseas when I don't want to bring a checked bag with tons of stuff and just bring a carry-on. It dries crazy fast and doesn't smell after a few uses. If you're wondering what size to get, I would not recommend the size I got. I have a 30-inch waist and got the 20X40 size and it just barely covers me up, but I wanted the lightest and smallest size I could get. If I bought this again I would probably buy one size bigger just so it covered me a little better, but this towel is still awesome. Holds up well!" —Nathaniel Smith

Get it from Amazon for $9.99 (available in three sizes and in 10 colors).

    21. And a pack of refillable perfume bottles, because packing light is no excuse for stinking up the place.

Promising review: "I bought these to use when traveling and they work perfectly! They are easy to fill with the little funnel included. The different colors make it easy to differentiate which scent is in each. Also, you can slide the bottom metal outer case off to see how much is left in each. Easy to carry in a purse or carry-on bag when flying so you don't have to put your full-size scents in a checked bag. If you won't use this many, they would be a great little stocking stuffer! Great product at a great price!!" —Amazon Customer
