Chances are you've heard of and even tried some of the hair tools offered by the genius folks at Dyson. I know I have!

Their blow-dryer was voted our favorite and I still swear by their Airwrap styling tool! I use it every time I wash my hair. Every. Time.

When I heard they came out with the new Corrale hair straightener that costs nearly $500, I just had to investigate and find out if it was worthy of that hefty price tag.

Quite frankly, $500 is not in everyone's budget. It's just a lot of money. A. Lot. But if you're someone who uses a hair straightener regularly, worries about heat damage, or likes to invest their money on products that'll prove themselves worthy — sometimes it's products like these are just worth the splurge. So let's investigate to see if the folks at Dyson have earned your cash.

First things first. Let's just take a second to look at the aesthetics and the very sleek design of this little piece of hair care machinery.

True to everything Dyson creates, the design of the Corrale hair straightener is very streamlined. Everything can basically be done with one hand and from my experience, it isn't very heavy. It also doesn't look bad sitting pretty on your counter in its provided stand.

Now let's talk about the innovation and their flexing (yes, flexing!) manganese copper alloy plates because this is the first tool I've ever seen with this technology. These plates are designed to actually move so you can gather hair with more control and use up to 50% less heat — potentially even causing half the damage.

The flexing plates shape around your hair, gathering it neatly together for each pass, as opposed to just flattening it down. This allows for a lighter grip when styling and enables more control which leads to needing less heat and causing less damage. It also translates to less frizz, breakage, and fewer flyaways. The manganese copper material was actually selected because it's more flexible, plus it's stronger and great at thermal conduction (that basically just means controlling the heat).

It is currently the only straightener to offer this technology because, of course, it's Dyson.

Speaking of heat, the Corrale also has an integrated sensor system that really controls how much heat is getting to your hair — and by really, I mean 100x per second. ONE. HUNDRED. TIMES. PER. SECOND. This little feature makes it great for all hair types.

By regulating the temperature this frequently, it's ensuring a constant power so that the heat coming out onto your hair never exceeds your chosen setting, of which they have three to choose from (330 degrees F, 365 degrees F, and 410 degrees F). These options in settings are to make sure the temperature is able to suit your hair type, length, and desired style.

Okay, so obvi all the technology is super cool ~from the future~ awesome — but just wait. 'Cause there is more! It can also be used totally cordless! Yupp. Not only will your hair be tangle-free, so will your straightener since you don't have to battle it out with a cord.

If you've ever lived with someone else in a home/apartment/tiny space that only granted you access to one bathroom then you know the "I need to use the..." dance all too well. Just as you're getting into the flow of your beauty routine you hear the inevitably knock of someone else needing to use the only well-lit, mirrored space in your home. So imagine being able to just walk out, straightener in hand, and continue in a new space! No unplugging required!

The Corrale is powered by a 4-cell lithium-ion battery which allows it to heat and work just like a corded straightener but without the restrictions of the cord. The battery will fully charge in 70 minutes and it can get a 90% battery charge in just 40 minutes when you use the magnetic charging cable or dock. Plus, if you place it down on the charging dock when you're styling (you know to apply product, section-off, etc. etc.) it will start charging and give you an extended run rate.

Another VERY cool feature is that it's travel-ready. It comes equipped with a flight-ready feature that lets you disable the battery and make it TSA-approved to safely fly with — plus it has universal voltage that allows for it to work in overseas plugs (with the right adapter of course).

    Elena Garcia/BuzzFeed, Dyson

The only country this bad-boy can't travel to is Japan. They have stricter regulations that mean you can't fly in or out of any of their airports with it. But for the rest of the world, you're good to go!

I think the big kicker here is the universal voltage. I've blown out quite a few hair tools in my day trying to get them to work in plugs around the world (RIP to my favorite curling iron) — electrical currents differ from country to country which is what causes so many of our tools to die when we try to plug them in during our vacations in far off places. But with the universal voltage feature, this won't happen to your Corrale.

Some other features the Corrale comes equipped with are an OLED screen, a heat-resistant traveling case, auto shut-off, a charging dock, and a safety lock — it's also engineered for balance, with the weight distributed to give your hand maximum control.

The OLED screen displays battery level, temperature control, and charging status during use. The auto shut-off feature guarantees your Corrale will switch off after 10 minutes of inactivity. You can also place your straightener on the dock when not in use and in between sections to charge it up and extend run time.

Since the Corrale launched just about two months ago, it's already established quite a fan base. Reviewers, while pointing out how much of an investment this new tool is, are noting just how worth-it it really is.

"As much as I hate how expensive this is, it has been amazing. I get about three uses out of it before I need to recharge it. It offers such a perfectly straight finish. My hair seems shinier and healthier and it works so quickly. It also provides GREAT curls and waves due to being cordless. It is so much easier to glide through hair. If you iron your hair two to three times a week or more and have the money, this is totally worth it. It has been a game-changer and I do truly love it." —ClynnWright

"Let me begin with a little about myself. I am a bi-racial woman in her late 40s. Anyone who has any mixture of Afrocentric hair can attest to the struggles of hair maintenance. My hair, although curly, is not a kinky curl. Blow-drying used to take hours before Dyson came along, and I thought that was a godsend! But now Dyson has outdone themselves! Flat ironing my hair was a process I hated. The straight results would only last a few hours, not to mention the damage done to my hair. This not only allows me to straighten in a single pass, but also reduced the process time from 90 min (using multiple passes on a section of hair) to a mere 30 minutes. Well beyond impressed, I held my breath and waited to see how long it would last. Low and behold it lasted beyond my 12-hour day, and only needed a 10-minute retouch after sleeping on it. If you think the supersonic dryer and air wrap were a game-changer, wait until this flat iron kisses your hair!!" —NaniJ

"I have been experimenting with this new Dyson hair straightener for quite a few days. I have used directly after a blow-dry and I have used it days later, on dry, non-washed hair for touch-ups. At first, I was curious about how it would work compared to the other, pricey straighteners that are already in my collection. I didn't think it could do any better. But I am very pleasantly surprised. First of all, it is absolutely faster. Absolutely. I have very thick hair and it usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes to straighten, in sections. With the Dyson, it took about 15 minutes. A touchup days later, even sectioning the hair, took less than 10 minutes. I could have done it in five minutes easily. I didn't think I'd care about the cordless feature but I realize it's what's been missing all my life. I swear that half the time in straightening my hair is continually moving the cord around the vanity. Now I can even move around a bit, answer my kids' questions while straightening, etc. It holds its charge very well and charges back up in a half-hour or so. I put it on the cradle to charge when I step into the shower. Perfect. It feels comfy in the hand. I usually stop to shake my hands out from discomfort while styling as I have arthritis. Don't have to do that here as the product has a nice weight and balance to it. Lastly, I've noticed that other straighteners make a stick straight, plastered to the head look. This Dyson straightener, however, gives hair a more blown-straight look that feels a bit more today and modern. I am very pleased and will continue to use the straightener regularly. It's great." —rcringean

The Dyson Corrale hair straightener is genuinely a piece of state-of-the-art technology engineered for all hair types and designed to tackle every frustration you've ever had while trying to do your hair. Basically, I drank the Kool-Aid and am now obsessed with this bad boy.
