Last night, President Obama gave his farewell address in Chicago, and things got pretty emotional.

He also tweeted his thanks to the American people, and stressed the importance of believing in the ability to create change.
Thank you for everything. My last ask is the same as my first. I'm asking you to believe—not in my ability to create change, but in yours.
First Lady Michelle Obama also tweeted this adorable photo of the family at the beginning of Obama's presidency, and expressed her pride in all they've accomplished.

After the address, celebrities took to social media to express their gratitude to the president. Many shared photos of POTUS and FLOTUS captioned with a simple "thank you".
Madonna called the president "a king amongst men".

Author Stephen King wrote a tribute on Twitter, and played on the whole "thanks, Obama" thing.
