Lewis Capaldi Explained What Happened When Someone Thought He Was A Seat Filler At The Grammys And The Story Made Me Cackle

"Listen. I know I didn't win a Grammy, but I thought I'd be able to stay 'til the end."

If you've heard even one single song in the last year, it's likely that you've heard "Someone You Loved" by Glasgow's finest, Lewis Capaldi.

His album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, was the biggest-selling album in the UK in 2019, and he was even nominated for his first Grammy last week in the Song of the Year category. It's been a pretty great year for Lewis!

But it turns out not everyone has been aware of Lewis' success this year β€” including a woman at the Grammys, who mistook him for a seat filler and offered to take his seat in the audience.

A lady at the grammys has just come up and offered to take my seat because she thought I was one of the people who sits in the chairs to fill them when someone gets up to use the bathroom πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ #GRAMMYs

    πŸ˜”

Well, Lewis told the full story during a recent appearance on the Graham Norton Show β€” and, of course, the whole thing was hilarious.

First, he celebrated his successful night at the ceremony.

But things took a turn after Lewis didn't win his award, and he was just chilling in his seat β€” which was a very nice seat β€” watching the show.

"I didn't do any pees or poos the whole time I was there," he explained, "so I was kind of sat β€” I was on the end of the fucking row β€” and people kept getting up and I had to keep getting up and sitting down."

And then, he went on, a lady came up to him during one of the commercial breaks.

Of course, being one of the attendees who was actually nominated for a Grammy and sitting in one of the best seats in the house, Lewis was unsure how to react.

After a little bit of back and forth, the lady finally came to the realisation that Lewis was, in fact, sitting in his assigned seat.

It's not all bad for Lewis, though β€” he's about to embark on his tour, which sold out before his album had even been released.

You can watch Lewis's full Graham Norton Show interview on BBC iPlayer if you're in the UK.
