And as it was confirmed a few days later that Pearl Mackie – who played the Twelfth Doctor's companion, Bill Potts – would not be returning for Season 11, people immediately began speculating as to who Jodie's companion could be.
Now rumours have started swirling about who the Doctor's new companion ~actually~ is – and, according to the Daily Mirror, it's Bradley Walsh.
For any non-Brits out there, Bradley Walsh is the current presenter of a quiz show called The Chase and also used to be in Coronation Street, a soap opera set in the north of England.
People have A LOT OF FEELINGS about the rumoured casting. Like, a lot. Mostly the feelings are of confusion.
A lot of people expressed their unhappiness at the news...
But some think the casting choice is so out there it might actually work, and the relationship between the new Doctor and her companion could mirror David Tennant and Catherine Tate's.
Even Matt Lucas, who has been a companion himself, had opinions – although he did say he wasn't sure if the news was true.
(And FYI, I asked the BBC for confirmation of the casting, and they said "we're not commenting".)
I am totally here for this, and really hope it's true.I am 100% against this and pray it's just a rumour.I think it ~might~ work, but have my reservations.I have more complex feelings than can be summarised in a simple poll, and will explain further in the comments.
