"Could you please teach me how to scare the dementors that have been living under my bed?" the fan wrote on Twitter. "I'm tired of being sad all the time."

As many Harry Potter fans know, the Dementors were created by J.K. Rowling as a metaphor for the depression she suffered during her twenties.

JKR wrote back just 10 minutes later, with some incredibly wise words:

"They're bothering a unique, valuable human being who deserves happiness," she wrote. "Ask for help. Don't fight alone. Big hug."

And, of course, being the wonderful people that they are, advice and comforting words began pouring in from Potter fans all over the world.
