Jeffree Star Opened Up About The James Charles Drama A Year Later And Said He "Doesn't Know" If The Accusations He Made Then Are True

"It's people in our community that are saying things, and I don't know if they're true or not," Jeffree said.

If you cast your mind back to simpler times, you may remember that just under a year ago the big news taking over all our timelines was a dramatic feud between YouTubers James Charles, Tati Westbrook, and — for some reason — Jeffree Star.

It all started when Tati uploaded a video to her channel titled "Bye Sister", airing out a bunch of issues she had had with James over the years and effectively ending their friendship.

It all happened because James agreed to take a sponsorship from SugarBear Hair — a direct competitor of Tati's vitamin brand, Halo Beauty — while at Coachella, because they offered him help with security when a crowd got out of control.

However, in the video, Tati went on to make some much harsher accusations against James, saying he had made some inappropriate comments about a male waiter at her birthday party, including apparently saying he didn't care whether the waiter was gay or not because James is "famous".

In a later video, James denied the accusations, and showed text screenshots that appeared to prove all his interactions with the waiter were 100% consensual.

However, things got even more serious and complicated when fellow YouTuber Jeffree Star weighed in, claiming in some swiftly deleted tweets that James was a "predator" and a "danger to society".

He went on to accuse James of manipulating his fans, and threatened to expose the "sad, disgusting things" he said James had done.

But James threw a spanner in the works when he posted his own 41-minute-long video full of screenshots and receipts, including of texts from Jeffree, in which he called Jeffree's accusations "hurtful" and "defamatory".

He said: "Jeffree's messaging about me in public and in private was hurtful, defamatory, extremely excessive, but most importantly, literally all based on lies. I wish I knew why he was doing all this."

And then Jeffree uploaded his own response video, titled "Never Doing This Again", apologising for wading into the drama and saying he "jumped the gun on a situation he didn't fully understand".

"I'm embarrassed by my own actions," Jeffree said in the video. "I should have been mature enough to say, 'Hey, I love and care about you. I've seen X, Y, and Z about you, I've seen and heard some things I don't like.' But I didn't, and that was my first mistake."

"There were people telling me a lot of stuff — and I don't mean my friends, I meant people that had known James," he went on. "Should I have let other people get in my head and sway my opinion about someone? No."

Well, during a new interview on the Mom's Basement podcast, Jeffree opened up about where the feud is at now, and called it a "very complicated situation".

When asked if he really believed James is a "predator", Jeffree reiterated that he had been "told some things", but admitted that he has no proof whether they're true or not.

He said: "The truth is that someone — and right now, I legally can't say who — told us a few things. And we trusted that person's opinion. And then another person said some things, and it really convinced us that he was a predator."

"It's people in our community that are saying things, and I don't know if they're true or not," Jeffree added.

He went on to say that he's not happy with the fact that he gets most of the blame for "ruining James' career", when it was Tati who uploaded the original video in the first place.

    Jeffree Star /

    He said:

[Tati] uploaded a 40-minute video about him, and she should have never uploaded that. But she did. And, for some reason, James thinks that me and Shane [Dawson] tried to ruin his life and orchestrated the whole thing like we fucking care. For what? We're our own superstars, we're in our own lane.

And Jeffree went on to say that, as it stands, he isn't friends with either Tati or James, but insisted that there's no feud between any of them.

    James Charles /

"I know everyone wants to create a feud against me and James — there's no feud," he said. "There's no competition. I've been doing this for a very long time. I'm in my own lane. Yes, we're boys in beauty, but I'm a fucking icon. I don't fucking care if he gained more on YouTube. To me, it isn't a numbers game, because I already won."
