1. The Breakfast Club (1985)

"The Breakfast Club worked for '80s teens, '90s teens, and is still effective for '00s teens and 2010s teens. It emphasizes the main dragging points of high school and teen years without being specific to one generation. For that age demographic, it really feels timeless."

"Strong female lead, minority characters that don’t have to act a certain way to fit in to the narrative and embrace their culture. Gay character that isn’t taken as a joke, but added to the plot. Love this film and it never gets old."

4. 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

"It’s one of the only teen movies to have come out of the '90s (or ever) that has a strong, outwardly feminist lead character. Kat takes no one’s shit, and that is exactly what I needed to look up to as a teen. The characters are all really realistic and relatable, and the film has some hilarious moments, along with some that tug at your heartstrings."
