Ten Things You Never Knew Your Reps Got Done!

#DYK that your reps are doing their best to make your life at uni as good as possible? They campaign for issues that are important to you, champion minority rights, and stand up for progressive topics .... whether it's about Halloumi Burgers, mid-semester feedback or a 24-hour-library. #EUSAWINS!

1. The Glorious Comeback of the Halloumi Burger

For a very long and torturous year the Halloumi Burger was off the Library Bar's menu. Until Vice-Pres Services Jenna finally got the the greatly craved, truly missed burger back for us!

2. Grants For Underprivileged Students

Uni offers a lot of great activities and sports but buying equipment or uniforms can be very expensive! Until Vice President Societies & Activities Jess got us a £10,000 Participation Grant that is!

3. More than 350 Additional Study Spaces at Main Library

Exam time is stressful enough as it is ... and having to search for free space at Main Library triples that anxiety! But no more getting up extra early to get a space, hovering around people that might leave a computer, or sprint towards a free one while being tackled by other desperate students ... President Alec got us over 300 new study spaces to take the pressure off a bit!

4. No Minimum Card Spend Anymore!

Ever went to a cafe on campus, wanting to buy a coffee for £1 and had to buy a sandwich and a muffin as well because you had no cash? Finally, we can pay any amount in any Students' Association outlet with our card! Let's be honest ... that was overdue, it's 2017!

5. Mid-Semester Feedback

How many times were you wondering why you had to give feedback for a class AFTER the end of semester? That won't help you much yourself ... Thanks to mid-semester feedback, we can now still benefit from improved classes!

6. Nine Month Ridacard

Remember when we had to pay £525 for a TWELVE month ridacard even though we left Edinburgh for the summer? Finally there's a cheaper NINE month ridacard that we actually use and don't feel ripped off with!

7. Meat Free Mondays

Skipping meat for one day a week helps you AND the planet ... and it's super delicious! Thanks to Jenna, Teviot's New Amphion introduced meat-free Mondays with mouth-watering vegetarian and vegan meals! Yummy!

8. Lower Accommodation Rents

#DYK the average student rent amounts to 95% of the maintenance loan! How to EAT with only 5% left? Thankfully, it's gotten a bit easier: Edinburgh Uni Housing now offers more than 900 rooms at less than £105 a week. Yeah!

9. Lecture Recordings

Sometimes lecture slides are just not enough ... Ever missed a lecture and just couldn't decipher the philosophical debaucheries? Or just didn't understand how the lecturer got from the super complicated equation to a simple answer? Don't fret, we got ya! From next semester a new lecture recording service goes live in 114 core teaching spaces and over the next three-years around 400 rooms will be equipped.

10. 24 Hours Library

Your essays are piling up, you don't think you'll ever get it done, you finally start the conclusion .... and then the announcement: The library is closing! Not anymore! Thanks to our Sabbs, we now got the long-anticipated 24 hours library for all nightowls and procrastinators! Study, cram and ponder ALL NIGHT LONG!
