So many things wrong here. But the most egregious: BALROGS DO NOT HAVE WINGS!
Response to 21 Things British People Hate About Americans:
As an American anglophile, I was completely on board with 1 (I’ve always preferred the double L), but then you just assembled a bunch of tweets from morons.
7. How the hell are you pronouncing ‘zeitgeist’? It’s a German word.
9. Can’t even speak English himself. ‘Sick’ doesn’t possibly infer ‘ill’ because?
10. Pick up a dictionary, preferably the OED, and see that ‘fall’ originated in 16th century England
14. Never made a Friends UK? Right, so we’ll just pretend Coupling never happened. Oh and Law & Order UK.
15. Has clearly never seen a US biscuit, because it is not even remotely like a UK muffin.
Response to This NASCAR Performance Of The Star-Spangled Banner Is Being Called The Worst Version Of All Time:
Gotta love the magazine calling them “Thomas Paine’s Rockin’ Troubadours.” Clearly no one at the magazine, or in the band, has ever read Thomas Paine. Paine was a Socialist and Atheist before either term existed.
“If the Department of Justice keeps appointing gay judges”
You do realize how Federal judges get appointed, right? Generally, the Senators from the state the vacancy is in consult with the President, who then makes the appointment, which is confirmed by the Senate. The President likely consults with the AG/DoJ, but they have no official role in the process. And, what the DoJ is doing right now is fulfilling compliance with the Windsor case. Under Windsor, the Federal Government was directed to recognize legal, state-sanctioned same-sex marriages. Nothing here is changing a law. It is adjusting applicability of the law in accordance with Supreme Court decisions.
Response to 50 French Songs You Need To Hear Before You Die:
Nothing by Juliette Gréco? Fail.
You obviously haven’t checked recently. It’s back!
There’s always at least one member of the Cabinet, and, since 2001, a small number of Congress members, who remain secured in an undisclosed location.
Response to 21 Chickens Just Doin’ Chicken Stuff:
They’re peepers, or blinders. They are used to control feather pecking in flocks.
So, you include China, where the custom you’re referring to is for Chinese New Year (the lunar new year, not Dec. 31/Jan. 1), but manage to not include a single thing from Scotland, where Hogmanay is one of the largest New Years festivals in the world? Good research there.
“popular comedian Stephen Fry?” Try National F*#$ing Treasure Stephen Fry.
So, your implication is that there are NO white racists?
Setting aside that only 3-4 of these ads (3, 8, 10, and possibly 4) seem directed solely at white racists, these are all ads from countries with white/caucasian majorities, and with long histories of structural/institutional racism against minorities and foreigners.
Do black racists exist? Of course. And it’s terrible that you’re inlaw’s smallminded views should cost your children the love of their grandparents. But I don’t know what country you’re living in, where white racism isn’t the larger problem, socially.
