When you start considering signing up for a marathon.

You take the plunge. It can't be that hard, you've run a few half marathons before.

You buy new running kit in anticipation of your training.

A training program requires new shoes right? And a new iPhone holder. And some new technical shirts.

The first run is easy and you figure this entire thing is going to be this easy!

The first 5k training run is definitely indicative of how easy the entire program will be.

You start to hit the treadmill a bit as well.

The rain may not stop your training, but it certainly makes it more boring on treadmill days.

Your training 'diet' kicks in.

As training picks up, it requires a bit more 'carb-loading'. Its not a pizza, its a training requirement.

As training picks up, you set up your charity page for donations.

You're running to support a good cause, so raising money should be easy.

Donations don't come in as quickly as expected.

You start considering how to up the stakes. If a marathon alone doesn't bring the donations in, what else could?

Your training runs pickup. You've started to hit your stride.

You ramp up your charitable efforts.

How many Facebook posts about my marathon training are too many? Beggars can't be choosers has never been so true.

You mark your training with some, surprisingly hard, training races.

A half marathon wasn't always this hard, was it? The knowledge that you're about to do it twice certainly does change things.

The training starts to add up, but there's an end in sight.

You may be running 20 miles on the weekend now, but tapering is right around the corner.

The taper means less training, but also that the marathon is around the corner

That sense of excitement and foreboding is normal right?

And you know before you know it, it'll be race day!

But you're still hitting people up for those charity donations.
