Because you want to know about all the bands before they're cool.

Minnow's songs range from stories of love and growing up to thought-provoking ruminations on reconciling humanity's place within nature. To the latter end, vocalist Nik O'Hara seamlessly interacts with the environments created by his instrumental counter-parts, further evoking a conscientious stewardship within the context of man's interaction with the world around him.

Minnow just released their debut LP, Trembles and Temperance, on Anchor Eighty-Four Records.

    2. S

S's front-woman, Jenn Ghetto, feels all the feelings you've ever felt about breaking up with someone, but she makes it sound cooler than your stupid brain seems to be able to do. Very rarely can an artist speak so honestly and directly about such a topic without coming off as trite. But Jenn Ghetto is like the Shakespeare of honest heartache (not that Shakespeare isn't already the Shakespeare of honest heartache, but...you know what I mean). And with catchy tunes to boot.

S recently released their new LP, Cool Choices, on Hardly Art Records.

Get into it now, and then save it for warm summer nights with your bae. The Bilinda Butchers make dream pop to remind you that at one time you were young and carefree and down for whatever. Though their debut LP, Heaven, is a concept album about true diary entries from a Japanese woman who commits suicide to be with the one she loves ala Anna K., the feeling you get from the overall album is warm and full of life.

Heaven was released on Orchid Tapes.

    4. Astronautalis

Not much has to be said about Astronautalis. Dude's been on the scene for a while now, and every record he puts out shows ridiculous amounts of growth and maturity, all while staying true to his seemingly unprecedented ability to tell complex stories and fit a stupid amount of words into each verse. The imagination with which Astronautalis crafts his lyrics is so far out there, going so far as to consider his last album historical fiction. I mean, who does that?

Astronautalis is currently working on a new album, but as for the old stuff...

Green Gerry is truly a band for the 21st century, successfully defying all categorical attempts. Led by the eponymous Gerry Green, this band takes everything you thought you knew about disparate sounds and weaves them together into a colorful tapestry. Having started in a bedroom in Athens, GA and subsequently blossomed in Los Angeles, this band knows what you want from your music, and they certainly aren't shy about sharing it with you.
