Mass Cucumber Culling Underway In Europe

Better safe than dead sorry. All across Europe, cucumbers are being destroyed out of fear that they harbor the deadly E. Coli virus.

• In France, local farmers are destroying cucumber crops that a wary public will not buy. Many fruits and vegetables are suspect after the most virulent strain of E. Coli in recent memory has killed at least 22 people and sickened more than 2,300 across Europe.

• The scene is similar in Romania, but on a much larger scale. Producers destroyed thousands of tons of cucumbers over the past two days, according to local media.
