If you're cool with abled actors playing disabled characters, ask yourself if you're cool with disabled actors playing roles that don't specify that if a character is disabled. Until we as a society hit that point, representation in role selection matters.

The best way to get accurate representation of a group on film is to hire an actor with that experience. There is no amount of research a cis, abled, or allistic person could do to 'become' trans, disabled, or autistic on screen.

Yes. Abled characters played by abled actors die onscreen all the time. It's not like disabled people have deluded ourselves into believing we're immortal or anything.

The first step to having non-offensive portrayals of disabled people is to actually have disabled people involved in production. I'm not trans, but I can only assume the same concept applies.

You don't have to talk to be in a movie. There's written communication, ASL, text-to-speech devices. Many silent movies are regarded as some of the best films of all time.
