2011 marks the 40th anniversary of the DES cancer link being made at Boston’s Massachusetts General Hospital by Dr Arthur L Herbst. DES, a toxic and carcinogenic drug, was prescribed to millions of pregnant women for decades. The currently proven effects of prenatal exposure to DES include a rare vaginal cancer; greater risk for breast cancer; abnormal reproductive organs; infertility; high-risk pregnancies; and possible risk for testicular cancer. DES is a worldwide drug tragedy.
