This Joey Just Popped Out Of Her Mother's Pouch And Is So Excited To Be Here

In what could possibly be the cutest thing you've ever seen, a female Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby joey has started peeking her head out from her mother's pouch at Sydney's Taronga Zoo. Look at how happy she is!

“She’s still quite shy, but we’re starting to see her little face more and more. Mica (her mother) likes to find a nice spot to rest in the sun and the joey will often pop its head out to look around,” said keeper Tony Britt-Lewis.

This joey is one of two Brush-tailed Rock-wallabies to emerge in the past week. Another female, Ruby, is also carrying a joey - Yay!

NB: This is not that joey... he or she is yet to emerge, however Tony said both infants appear to be strong and healthy.

The zoo is working with the Office of Environment and Heritage on a coordinated program to help the recovery of the Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby species and both these joeys show the success of the program.
