The queen of snakes took full advantage of her exposure on Rupaul’s Drag Race All Stars this past summer, releasing the hilarious and often meta Poundcake.
For those of you not familiar with drag race, Alaska was a fan favourite ever since she lost in season 5 to the campy underdog Jinkx Monsoon.
Back for "ru-demption" in the second rendition of All Stars, Alaska went on to take the crown, to much fan backlash.
Criticized for playing the game too cut throat, sending home fan favourites at every challenge – the general public missed the kooky and lovable Alaska they watched in season 5.
With the release of Poundcake, our reigning queen proves exactly why she deserved the crown despite being a snake, as so many fans have dubbed her.
Alaska fully embraces what she did on the race with the opening track The T, proving that in order to be the most successful ru-girl around, you have to be THAT bitch.
The album is full of references to drag race, most notably Slaytina, which constructs the perfect drag queen by taking bits and pieces from the most popular girls from the show (special shoutout to Michelle Visage’s breasts).
Alaska knows her brand, and she knows how to do drag. The album is pure drag fun, doesn’t take itself too seriously, and is a ru-turn to the Alaska we’ve always loved.
So, if you love the over the top-ness, gay-ness and just plain fun of Rupaul's Drag Race, this album is a must listen.
