Last night's opening sketch on Saturday Night Live featured an "updated" version of the classic Schoolhouse Rock cartoon, mocking President Obama's controversial use of executive orders.
Just like in the original Schoolhouse Rock, the folksy Bill sings a cheesy song to helpfully explain the workings of government to a curious young boy — right until it gets shoved down the steps of Congress by President Obama.
The President takes his chance to explain how Washington really works, with executive orders making for a convenient way to bypass a gridlocked Congress.
♪ I'm an executive order, and I pretty much just happen. ♪
"Wait a second, don't you have to go through Congress at some point?"
"Aw, that's adorable, you still think that's how government works."
♪ Look at the midterm elections, people clearly don't want this... ♪
♪ We're going to take you to court! We're going to shut down all of Congress... ♪
