Two people were killed Saturday when a car was struck by a freight train at a railroad crossing in Louisville, Kentucky, police told BuzzFeed News.
The incident happened in the city's West Buechel neighborhood at around 4:00 p.m. ET, police spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said.
"As a result of the collision, two people in the car with fatal injuries were pronounced dead on the scene," Mitchell said, noting those killed were in the front passenger and right rear seats.
The driver and another passenger were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
It appeared the car's driver had tried to beat the train at the crossing, which has flashing lights but no guard rail, Mitchell said.
