Zadar Voted Best European Destination for 2016

With almost 300,000 votes, Croatian city of Zadar has been voted the Best European Destination for 2016 by Best European Destinations portal. Take a look at some of the top attractions.

1. St. Donatus' Church

Some of the attractions are: Roman Forum, Cathedral of St. Anastasia, St. Mary Church located in the old city opposite of St. Donatus’ Church, Five Wells Square, the Land Gate, the Great Arsenal and the unique Sea Organ.

2. Sea Organ

The Sea Organ in Zadar is unique architectural achievement, interesting and original connection of architecture and music. It is an experimental musical instrument which plays music by way of sea waves and tubes located underneath large marble steps. In 2006, the Sea Organ was awarded with the European Prize for Urban Public Space.

The city is considered urban, cultural and economic center of north Dalmatian region. It is especially visited by sailors because of beautiful coast and many nearby small and big islands. Zadar has some amazing beaches, too. They are located north of the city in an area called Borik, and some are located near the city center in area called Kolovare and Arbanasi.

4. The Greeting to the Sun

The Greeting to the Sun consists of three hundred multilayer glass plates installed at the same level as the stone paving of the quay in the shape of a circle 22 meters in diameter. It is conceived as a spatial installation in the shape of an amphitheater surrounded by stone blocks with a presentation of all Solar System planets and their orbits.
