Rumours of The X Factor’s demise are premature, according to the man who should know.
A decline in ratings, along with the fact that the show’s current contract with ITV is up this year had led to speculation that the forthcoming tenth series would be the last.
But speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival this morning, ITV’s director of television Peter Fincham pledged the channel’s future to Simon Cowell’s two big shows.
“Huge brands like The X Factor and BGT are absolutely central to our schedule. I think they’re going to be around for a long time to come.”
Cowell has always said that he would rest his talent show juggernauts before people get bored of them, but with the channel hungry for more, that day looks a way off.
This year sees Sharon Osbourne return to the judging panel, for what she says is just one series. Veteran judge Louis Walsh has suggested that this year will be his last, and the table is made up by returning judges Gary Barlow and Nicole Scherzinger.
