Chris Rock Is Rebooting The "Saw" Movies And I'm Here For It

Chris Rock wants to play a game.

Greetings fellow horror fans. I've come to relay some exciting news about the Saw movies.

Chris Rock has a new idea for the franchise and is partnering up with Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures for a reboot.

You read that correctly – the comedian Chris Rock! He'll be executive producing the untitled film that's scheduled for release on October 23, 2020. Darren Lynn Bousman, the director of Saw II, III, and IV, will be directing it.

“I’ve been a fan of Saw since the first film in 2004," Rock said in a press release. "I am excited by the opportunity to take this to a really intense and twisted new place.”

Some people aren't too pleased with the idea of Rock reimagining the franchise.

Alright I can’t wait for ***throws dart at board*** Chris Rock’s reboot of ***throws dart at board*** The Saw franchise. https://t.co/0bIvGddhrW

Some are quick to point out the recent success comedians have had when taking on a horror project.

We're the ones that put limits on what artists can do. Chris Rock + Saw? Absolutely. The Mac Dance on Always Sunny Jim from The Office making A Quiet Place Jordan Peele and Us and Get Out Bill Hader and Barry Chris Rock + Saw? ABSOLUTELY.

Seeing skepticism re: Chris Rock doing a SAW reboot and in response I'd just like to point to Danny McBride & David Gordon Green's HALLOWEEN, Matthew Holness' POSSUM, John Krasinski's A QUIET PLACE, and both of Jordan Peele's movies. Funny people ain't new to the horror genre.

I personally am very excited to see where Rock takes the story. And hey, if he wants to throw in a few jokes to help relieve some torture-induced anxiety, I'm all for it.
