A Bunch Of Need-To-Know Dick Facts, The Magic Eraser Teeth Whitening Myth, And More From Medical TikTok

So let's dive right into it! Recently we talked to Krista Torres about some of the latest trends in medical TikTok, including using Magic Erasers to whiten your teeth, using eyeliner on your waterline, and why you should avoid both. Here's some of what we learned:

BuzzFeed Daily: So viral whitening teeth trends are nothing new on TikTok, but a woman who uses Magic Eraser to whiten her teeth gave us all a moment of pause. So, Krista, talk to us about how this woman's weird dental hygiene sparked a viral commotion.

Krista Torres: I think, first of all, it stops everybody in their tracks just hearing the sound of her rub a Magic Eraser on her teeth — it's like fingernails on a chalkboard. So that first of all. Second of all, we use Magic Eraser to clean crayons off the wall and other things like that. You don't put it in your mouth. This woman went on fully like, "Don't come after me, I'm going to do this. I'll just say right away." Like, basically that this is what works for her and kind of telling other people they should try it. But also at the same time saying that, you know, "Dentists are going to come after me because it's bad." So it's very hypocritical to begin with. But it was so alarming because she said she's been doing it for years. She doesn't use fluoride on her teeth. It's just one thing after another that we have all been taught to do, like not put chemicals in your mouth and to use fluoride, I think is why people are like, "Wait, what? But your teeth are so white." So that's why people were intrigued. 

BuzzFeed Daily: In addition to not using Magic Eraser on our teeth, TikTok is also teaching us about the dangers of wearing eyeliner in our waterline. There was this graphic TikTok showing a patient who has done this since they were a teenager that stopped us all in our tracks. You spoke to the eye doctor behind the TikTok. So, what happened?

KT: So, basically, I did not know this. I grew up in the '90s era where you're putting the eyeliner in your waterline. But she put the TikTok out there to basically show us that wearing this eyeliner over time is going to clog the glands in your eyes and it's going to prevent you from being able to produce healthy tears. So, in this graphic video — because you can't see it, you don't want to see it — your tears that come out of these glands, these little secretions, when you pull your eyelid down should kind of have a consistency of almost like an oil. But when they get clogged, you have to express the glands and squeeze them out. And they had a consistency like toothpaste. It's pretty gross.

BuzzFeed Daily: It wouldn't be a medical TikTok discussion without some penis facts, many of which you can learn from Dr. Edward Zimmerman, a.k.a. the Dick Doc from TikTok. That is very catchy. He's been offering sage penis advice for a while now. Krista, you actually went straight to Dr. Zimmerman for the truth once and for all. So, let's start with size. What exactly is the average penis penises?

KT: The average penis is actually not only five inches long when you're erect, but it's also five inches at its widest circumference when erect. So not diameter, not diameter, don't think diameter, think like circumference around.

We also discussed a recent episode of The Good Fight that made mention of Selena Gomez’s kidney transplant.

Her pal Ashley Tisdale reprimanded the writers, telling them to “go back to school to come up with something clever and actually funny.” Selena herself had previously acknowledged the scene on Twitter, calling it “tasteless.” A source close to the show told E! News that the line was actually a reference to the Saved by the Bell reboot’s joke about Selena, and was part of a larger conversation about topics that shouldn’t be made fun of.

We also talked about Lil Nas X’s new interview with Out magazine, in which he opened up how it felt to come out, and how being a Black gay rapper has affected his mental health.

He said: “Mentally, it’s really draining and straining sometimes. The pressure of living your entire life knowing the identity of what a rapper is supposed to be, what rappers [are supposed to] do, and going out there in front of all these people, it’s terrifying.” He also talked about the difficulties of growing up Black and gay in the south, saying he saw a lot of “microaggressions towards homosexuality.”
