Man from the UK Helps to Raise Money for a Woman in Texas (Thanks to a Drag Queen!)

Daibhid MacCann read about Ciera Vaidya's fundraising efforts through a retweet of her GoFundMe campaign by RuPaul's Drag Race star, Ginger Minj, and wanted to help.

The Retweet

Can anyone help? Another part went out and I'm in danger of infection and lack of circulation!! :( https://t.co/tNSGmcw9Au via @gofundme

It started with a retweet. Ginger Minj, a contestant on the seventh season of RuPaul's Drag Race and the second season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars , had retweeted the GoFundMe campaign launched by Ciera Vaidya to raise money for a new wheelchair.

Ciera, from Beaumont, Texas, has Amyoplasia, a rare condition she's had from birth which replaces her skeletal muscles with dense fibrous tissue that severely limits her mobility. She relies heavily on her wheelchair, which enables her to get around, go to work and look after her two young boys.

However, the wheelchair, which is several years old, is falling apart, and getting a new one is a lengthy and uncertain process. Ciera had decided to take matters into her own hands and had launched an online fund-raising campaign to try an raise enough money to buy her own chair.

The Drag Race fan

@Robotr0n1106 @gofundme @TheGingerMinj Yes, @TheGingerMinj brought me here. Retweets do work. My donation was small… https://t.co/SyhZYZO2QA

A fan of RuPaul's Drag Race, Daibhid MacCann, saw Ginger's retweet of the fundraising campaign and donated. He had been moved by Ciera's story and wanted to let her know that her campaign to buy a new chair had been seen by someone in the UK. She wasn't alone.

The News Channel

Noticing that the campaign wasn't doing so well, Daibhid wanted to try and get the word out, and began contacting news stations in Beaumont, Texas, and to his surprise, Channel 6 KFDM News responded and said they would like to interview Ciera for a special news report.

The Campaign

The campaign is beginning to pick up some steam after the news report, and both Ciera and Daibhid hope that the exposure will help to raise the money required to get Ciera the chair she needs.
