6 Web-Tools ALL Students Need

As technology evolves, so does learning. Many students rely on technology for school work, myself included. Below are a list of 6 web tools for students, recommended by a student, to help with most of your online educational needs!

1. EasyBib

Who wants to have to look up every single format for a bibliography when EasyBib can do it for you! EasyBib is a web-based tool where students can easily generate a bibliography by pasting a link or manually entering source information into the program. Once all of the information is entered, EasyBib will create a citation and you can be one step closer to finishing that essay due tomorrow! Of course, you need to pay attention* when you insert your information to make sure it is all correct. *It should be mentioned that EasyBib is a great starting place for citations. The citations generated typically need to be edited and have the information verified by none other than yourself! We're all scholars here, all you need to do is go the extra step to ensure all the information is true and formatted properly!

2. Google Scholar

Earlier I mentioned how EasyBib was a great website to help you create citations, but finding sources themselves isn't always a simple task. Google Scholar, which is basically an online library for scholarly articles, may sound intimidating as if only true scholars and professors can use it, however, it's actually surprisingly easy to use to find those sources you've been missing. It has a bunch of filters you can play with to refine your search and even has a list of top publications, you know, for your reading enjoyment. Google Scholar even has a citation generator! Once you decide which source you are using, under the link you first clicked to reach the text of your source is a button that says "cite," click cite and it is as easy as that! Find the link here!

3. Grammark

Grammark is another awesome tool! Have you ever wondered how your style of writing is on a particular paper, if you're being too wordy, or just want to know how many grammar errors you have? There's a solution for you! All you have to do it copy and paste your work into Grammark where you can adjust the grading guidelines to review your paper for you! Work smarter not harder, right?

4. Zamzar

For all of those times that you have brought in the incorrect format of presentations, videos, or essays, and given that most students have at one point in their academic career, I bring you the great, the powerful, Zamzar. For all of your converting needs, Zamzar introduces an easy four-step process to covert your files in a matter of seconds. Yes, you heard that correct, seconds! So, next time you're moments away from that in-class presentation, use Zamzar to make sure you have the correct format so it all goes smoothly.

5. Evernote

By far, one of the best note-taking websites out there. Evernote lets you add images and links to your notes, as well as remind you to go over them and share them with others. In Evernote, you can create notebooks for each subject (or class) and keep an organized online file of your notes anywhere you go. One less thing you need to be worrying about with your busy schedule. All of your notes are stored online, maybe in the cloud, so all you need to access them is your login information, no need to run back and forth from your locker or call home because you forgot your notebook!

6. Thesaurus

Whether you use an online one, or go the old fashioned book route, a thesaurus will be your best friend in any writing class you take. Do you ever get that feeling where you know exactly what word you want to use but can't remember the word itself? Yep, me too. Look up similar words in the thesaurus that relate and eventually you will stumble upon the word you were looking for, or find an entirely new word, but make sure you know what it means before you use it! So, as a bonus, I will include a link to a dictionary, because why not have all the best student links in one place?
