This "Game Of Thrones" Theory Explains Why Varys Took Off His Rings And It's Bad News For Daenerys

Hello Game of Thrones fans! It's been a few days since Season 8, Episode 5, "The Bells," and I still have a lot of questions — which is hilarious because I KNOW they're not all going to be answered by the end.

It's fine, I've accepted my fate.

Anyway, one BIG question I had from "The Bells" was why Varys removed his rings before being executed for committing treason.

In particular, that JEWELED one. The shot was so purposeful, and held on the ring for a good moment. It also seems weird to take off your jewelry if you know you're about to be executed?

But then I started thinking about the theory that Varys was planning on poisoning Daenerys.

Basically, this theory says that Varys was using Martha (one of his little birds) to try to poison Dany.

And then I thought, "WAIT, maybe Varys's rings actually contain poison and that's why he's removing them?!"

Maybe someone else can still use them?

Because, remember, that's exactly how JOFFREY was killed — by poisoned jewelry.

For a quick refresher, Olenna (with Littlefinger's help) used a poisoned stone from Sansa's necklace to kill Joffrey at the Purple Wedding.

Littlefinger gave Dontos a fake family heirloom necklace. Dontos gave that necklace to Sansa — to thank her for saving his life on Joffrey's name day celebration. Sansa then wore that necklace to Joffrey and Margaery's wedding, and there Olenna removed the poisoned jewel and put it in Joffrey's wine.

Basically, what I'm saying is that poisoned jewelry is very much a THING in Game of Thrones.

Olenna was TRULY the best. And a very good sleight of hand.

So, did Varys leave a poisoned ring behind for someone to use on Daenerys?

Could it be Martha who completes the deed or, perhaps, Varys told Tyrion about the poison ring(s) and he will do it?!

Either way, one thing's for sure — there are gonna be a lot of people coming for Daenerys in the series finale.

And maybe one of them will use a sneaky bit of poisoned jewelry.
