So, Ready Player One doesn't come out until next year, but honestly? You should be very excited because the premise is pretty effing great.
Now, one of the key things to know about Ready Player One is that Willy Wonka is actually a pretty big influence on the story. In fact, the book has even been described as "Willy Wonka meets The Matrix."
It was even rumored at one point that Steven Spielberg had tried to bring Gene Wilder out of retirement to play the Halliday role (obviously, before he passed away last
year) — because CAN YOU IMAGINE how bad-ass that would've been? SIGH.
There were a TON of Easter eggs from the book in the Ready Player One trailer released at Comic-Con, but there was actually a super subtle nod to Willy Wonka in the trailer you probably missed.
