Geeky·Posted on Mar 6, 2019The "Game Of Thrones" Trailer Finally Dropped — Here Are All The Details You MissedFor the Throne!!!by Crystal RoBuzzFeed StaffFacebookPinterestTwitterMailLink Ladies, gentlemen, and dragons, we're only 40 days away from the return of Game of Thrones and a Season 8 trailer has FINALLY dropped. Crystal Ro / BuzzFeed / HBO Before I go further, fair warning, THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS — but, then, what are you doing clicking on a post about the trailer if you don't want spoilers?! First thing's first, if you haven't seen the trailer yet, here it is: View this video on YouTube youtube.com Now, if you're any kind of obsessive fan like me, you probably had to watch this multiple times because a) the lighting is REALLY dark and b) OMG there's so much happening. Let's attempt to break it down... 1. We open on Arya ~running~ from someone/something — but what's PROBABLY happening here is that she's setting a TRAP... HBO We know Arya is great at setting traps to catch her enemies, this whole scenario is very reminiscent of how she expertly killed the Waif back in Season 6, Episode 8 "No One." Don't forget, a girl has some serious training. 2. ...and note that she's carrying a DRAGONGLASS blade/spearhead. Crystal Ro / BuzzFeed / HBO As we know, in Season 7 Jon convinced Dany (with some CONVENIENTLY PLACED cave drawings, LOL) to let him mine all the dragonglass on Dragonstone so they could fight the White Walkers. 3. In her V.O., Arya very confidently talks about how she's seen the many faces of death and that she "looks forward to seeing this one" while holding the same (or a similar) dragonglass blade. Crystal Ro / BuzzFeed / HBO So, it seems like Arya may be setting a trap for the Night King or, more likely, some White Walkers. 4. Arya's "trap" could be the start of the inevitable siege of Winterfell by the White Walkers and here we see Davos, pacing the battlement, likely waiting for them. HBO Ugh, love the Onion Knight. 5. Meanwhile, we see a very scared Varys hiding out in the Winterfell Crypt with the women and children... HBO This shot really reminds me of the Battle of Helm's Deep scene in Lord of the Rings! 6. ...note Gilly and baby Sam in the background, sitting on one of the Stark crypt statues we saw Ned and Robert Baratheon walk by back in Season 1, Episode 1, "Winter is Coming." Crystal Ro / BuzzFeed / HBO Winterfell Crypt getting a lot of action in Season 8, apparently. 7. Next, we get our first look at the Golden Company on the ships of the Ironborn... HBO The Golden Company has been mentioned a few times throughout the show, but basically they're a powerful group of Essos-based mercenaries and near the end of Season 7 Cersei (with Qyburn's help) hired them to "expand her armies." 8. ...and the blonde dude leading them is a new character named Harry Strickland who is being played by Marc Rissmann (known for shows like The Last Kingdom and The Man in the High Castle). Crystal Ro / BuzzFeed / HBO / BBC America In Season 7 Cersei said that she wanted the Golden Company to "recover some things that belong to me." I presume she means Winterfell, but lord knows with her. 9. Presumably, Strickland is on his way to see Cersei as he appears to be in the Great Hall of King's Landing with her later in the trailer. Crystal Ro / BuzzFeed / HBO It's very hard to see, but it looks like Strickland in the middle and Euron Greyjoy to his right. 10. We then see Eddison Tollett, ginger bae Tormund, and Beric Dondarrion!!! (Glad to see Tormund and Beric survived the Night King's ice dragon attack on The Wall at the end of Season 7.) HBO Also, LOLing at how handy/clever it is for Beric to use his flaming sword as a torch. 11. Then we have Sam and Bran chatting — presumably coming up with a plan of attack on how to tell Jon, in the least awkward way possible, that he just had sex with his aunt. Crystal Ro / BuzzFeed / HBO In one of the last scenes of Season 7, Sam and Bran realized that not only was Jon the son of Lyanna and Rhaegar, but also a true-born son (and not a bastard). "He needs to know, we need to tell him." 12. Then there's a shot of the Red Keep in King's Landing — it's a nice callback to almost the exact same shot of Varys and Tyrion back in the day. HBO Although, the lighting is clearly not as warm and optimistic. 13. Cersei looking out, very pleased at something in King's Landing, more than likely she's watching the Golden Company arrive. HBO Classic smug Cersei grin. 14. Next, we get a rare glimpse of Winter Town and the arrival of the Unsullied... HBO YES, Winterfell has a little village called Winter Town just outside its gates. 15. ...and I love that this scene is very reminiscent of both Bran and Arya Stark climbing up high to watch the Lannisters arrive in Winterfell back in Season 1, Episode 1. Crystal Ro / BuzzFeed / HBO KIDS. 16. And then we have Jon, Dany, and the dragons FINALLY arriving at Winterfell... HBO Sansa looks very impressed. (I WOULD BE TOO!) 17. Here we have Dany approaching Jon in the Winterfell crypt — my guess is he's either looking at Ned or Lyanna's statue. HBO Probably after finding out the truth about his parents from Bran and Sam. That's a lot to reflect on!!!! 18. And there's V.O. from Jon giving what sounds a lot like an inspirational eve-of-battle speech. Crystal Ro / BuzzFeed / HBO "They're coming, our enemy doesn't tire, doesn't stop, doesn't feel," is a very kind way of saying, "we're basically fucked." 19. YES GENDRY!!! Sweaty and ready to make some White Walker-killing weaponry. HBO As we know, Gendry is a master blacksmith, so it's highly probable he'll be the one in charge of making weapons from all that dragonglass mined at Dragonstone. 20. ...in fact, it looks like that's a big ol' pile of dragonglass behind the anvil. Crystal Ro / BuzzFeed / HBO Gotta speed things up in this final season! 21. HIGHLY concerned this is Greyworm and Missandei's last kiss, BTW. HBO I mean, I don't want to be a Debbie Downer, but y'all know a lot of people are gonna die this season. 22. It's hard to tell in this shot, but it looks like Brienne fighting up in this burning castle based on the silhouette of floppy hair, armor, and what looks to be her sword Oathkeeper... Crystal Ro / BuzzFeed / HBO It's POSSIBLE it's Jaime, but it just doesn't look like him to me. 23. ...which then makes me wonder if this shot of Jaime yelling is directed at Brienne to save or call out to her? HBO Just some speculation here, folks — I know there's heavy editing involved. 24. This beautiful shot of Jon at Winterfell's weirwood tree mirrors the one of Ned from Season 1. HBO Good place to think. 25. Then there's this shot of The Hound — which is poignant because we know how deathly afraid of fire he is. Looks like he'll have to face that fear head on. Crystal Ro / BuzzFeed / HBO Back in Season 4, Episode 7, "Mockingbird," The Hound told Arya about how his brother Gregor Clegane (The Mountain) gave him those terrible scars on his face as a child, "He pressed me to the fire like I was a nice, juicy mutton chop." 26. Meanwhile, Jaime's V.O. seems to be directed at either Cersei or someone who doesn't trust him, "I promised to fight for the living. I intend to keep that promise." HBO This definitely seems like something he'd say to Cersei, but seeing as how he left King's Landing at the end of last season and that the setting looks blue/cold like the North, I get the feeling it might be Jaime trying to convince someone WHY he's ditched Cersei. 27. Jon and Dany (Mom and Dad!!) approach Drogon and Rhaegal — IS THIS WHERE JON BECOMES A DRAGONRIDER? Crystal Ro / BuzzFeed / HBO Also, it's probably not a coincidence Jon appears to be approaching Rhaegal since a) Drogon is effectively Dany's #1 dragon and b) Rhaegal is named after Jon's birthfather Rhaegar Targaryen. 28. Arya showing off her Faceless Man skills in the same fiery battle we've already seen. Tap to play or pause GIF Tap to play or pause GIF HBO Had to make this a GIF. 29. An incredibly brief (and sole) shot of Tyrion in the whole trailer. HBO What do we think he's looking up at? My answer will always be dragons, LOL. 30. Brienne and Pod with the Knights of the Vale. Crystal Ro / BuzzFeed / HBO Ohhhh, Littlefinger — better days for him back in Season 6. 31. And finally, the ominous arrival of the White Walkers with Winterfell in the distance. HBO What else did I miss? Tell me in the comments below!
