Response to How Has Sobriety Made Your Life Better?:
I come from a long line of alcoholics. I started drinking in high school and married shortly after graduation. We moved away from everyone I knew. I began drinking. Heavily and daily. Blackouts were my normal routine. When I was 20, my mother died from her drinking at the age of 41. She has missed so much. I continued drinking and blacking out for four more years. My last blackout I came to horking into the toilet and it finally clicked. I had to stop. I was going to die. I had been trying to get pregnant and within my first month sober, I did. My son is my everything. I just celebrated my 12th year sober and you want to know where I was? In a college classroom with 3 months left until I have my degree to be a drug and alcohol counselor. Life still has its ups and downs but at least now I remember how I got through it.
Children ruin your life in a good way.
