About the glass pan... Buy Pyrex, not actual glass. Glass does not do well with temperature changes and will crack or shatter. Pyrex is designed for temperature changes and is less likely to crack or shatter.

Follow up question: Does your scale actually say "zero" or does it say "tare"? I've not seen a scale that has a "zero" button, but "tare" is the way to make the scale read zero even if it has weight on it.
