That Story About Pokémon Go Causing A Major Highway Accident Is A Hoax

Pokémon Go has already led one young woman to stumble upon a dead body, and it was allegedly used by a group of thieves to target their victims. Here's another crazy story about what the addictive app is causing:

The story claimed that a 26-year-old man in Massachusetts was responsible for "causing one of the worst highway accidents after stopping in the middle of the highway to catch a Pikachu."

Well, no. It's a hoax.

The article was published on CartelPress.com, a fake news website run by the same people behind Huzlers, another long time source of hoaxes.

The highway accident story is spreading quickly and has already been shared more than 60,000 times on Facebook, racking up nearly 150,000 likes.

Cartel Press is currently pumping out a stream of Pokémon Go hoaxes. To make things even more confusing, it also published a report about the girl in Wyoming who actually did find a dead body while playing the game.

However, unlike the true dead body story, the story about the hoax car accident doesn't offer any details about which highway it occurred on, doesn't link out to any other credible sources, and also falsely claims that the accident led #dontpokemongoanddrive to trend on social media.

Because of the hoax's popularity the hashtag is now being used by people who have been fooled.

One reason the story is proving so shareable is it seems inevitable there will be major accidents as a result of people playing the game. This paramedic tweeted that she was already called to an accident for this exact reason.
